This place is for true cat lovers. They are a non profit organization (most of the places in Tokyo are for profit, meaning they are a business for $$) and this place truly care about their cats, that you can adopt.

I absolutely support Neco Republic’s mission to help cats find homes, and the Yanaka branch was the best “cat cafe” i’d ever been to, but the Ikebukuro branch wasn’t a good experience for me and my mum, when visiting at around 2:30 on a Saturday. The place itself was lovely although quite cramped, and the cats were lovely too! The main downside was how many people were allowed in at once. When me and my mum arrived, there were already around 6 people in the small room of cats, and yet we were allowed inside as well. We were hoping this was just because of scheduling, and that surely some of the current visitors would soon leave. But alas, more and more kept coming, until there were 10 people in the small room, us included. A few days before this, we went to the Yanaka branch, and it was the most lovely environment, with all the kitties seeming genuinely happy to see the humans visiting them, with a large area to explore (2 floors). The Ikebukuro branch was the complete opposite of this, with around 10 people cramped in a small space with around 11 cats. The cats were mostly hidden in high up or small spaces as to avoid the throng of visitors. Everyone was nice enough to the cats, although a few guests kept prodding the cats for attention, even touching them directly with the toys and not respecting the boundaries of the cats. Again, this was the fault of the humans, not the cats. I would suggest to the staff of this branch to have a limit of around 4-6 people at a time for such a small place, since although this would result in less money for the cats, their quality of life would likely improve greatly. I highly highly recommend the Yanaka branch, but I would avoid this branch on at busy times or on weekends. Also, I think the place would benefit from some simple infographic signage about cats body language, to reinforce the point that the cats all deserve complete respect of their boundaries.

Amazing place, the staff is super friendly and the place has great conditions for all the cats. We were able to have a drink and play and pet the cats that wanted to interact and will definitely come back! Also had lovely souvenirs! Highly recommend it!
