Quite beautiful place if you can go to this place when the weather is good. Not recommend at all if the weather is bad. An enjoyable drive through the jungle where you can see lot of elephant droppings along the road. Didn't see elephants though. The road is very good for driving. The entrance is free but you have to obtain a pass to proceed through two check points. No

A gate pass has to be obtained from the Mahaweli office . But the security guards will allow you to visit the dam even if you haven’t obtained it. Better to go to the office and get the approval. Properly maintained washrooms are available.

A bit of a walk uphill will bring you to a breathtaking view of the reservoir and the dam. Recommend visiting in the morning or evening otherwise it's too hot and too sunny if you want good photographs.

The Moragahakanda Dam, officially known as the Kulasinghe Reservoir, is a large gravity dam located on the Amban River at Elahera in Sri Lanka's Matale District. Part of the larger Moragahakanda–Kalu Ganga Project, it serves critical purposes in irrigation and power generation. The project also includes the Kalu Ganga Dam, situated about 10 kilometers from Moragahakanda. Construction began in 2007, and the dam was completed in 2018, with its maiden water release in January 2017. The total development cost for both the Moragahakanda and Kalu Ganga Dams was approximately Rs. 48.145 billion (around US$370 million

Moragahakanda Dam is a remarkable engineering feat in Sri Lanka, serving as a multi purpose reservoir that enhances irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and water supply. Completed in 2018, it is part of the larger Moragahakanda Kalu Ganga Project, aimed at addressing water scarcity and boosting agricultural productivity. Visitors to the dam can admire its stunning scenery, with surrounding landscapes adding to its beauty. While access to the dam itself requires permission from security posts, the reservoir offers breathtaking views that make it a worthwhile stop for travelers. If you're interested in learning about Sri Lanka's water management efforts or simply want to enjoy a peaceful natural setting, Moragahakanda Dam is a great place to visit.
