318 Madras Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch 8013, New Zealand
Busy road area but plenty of parking close by and just nice to rest and sit on park chair's to visit after some many lives lost in America 9/11 the RSJ Steel beams are from level #53 of the World Trade Center that came all the way to Christchurch Fighters Reserve. ???
Busy area but super pretty. I love looking out over the river and it's such a nice area to walk. Worth a look if you're walking around chch central!
Christchurch memorial to firefighters, made from World Trade Centre steel beams “"During the time of construction, the city reflected on the place of war and violence in our world. Having read this summary, please go across the river sit down and quietly reflect on what happens when people stop talking and violently push their dogma on each other. Remember the victims and, like the firefighters act selflessly and strive for a world of peace" Garry Moore Mayor of Chrisichurch 2004 PAX VOBICUM PUMAUTIA RITE POURORO CHRISTCHURCH Behind it, a tribute to Christchurch earthquake firefighters made from pieces of the Cathedral
I really like the story and symbolics of this place. More people should come by, lesrn about it and acknowledge it. Combo of 9/11 monument and memorial celebrating bravery of NZ and Oz even US firefiters is really there. I wish all the national flags were still flying ( Oz and USA) besides ours for the full symbolic. Also many people are surprised when I mention that one of the benches to rest on and watch the river are made from the destroyed Christchurch Cathedral...
Special but in wrong place on the map. It is actually across the river
