This place is excellent to visit, especially in weekdays when is not crowded. Beautiful place to have a long walk, lot of barracks to see where you may find excibitions. There is beautiful cafe in the top of the hill where the view to Sydney (and bridge) is amazing. The cafe is not always open. Also, you will find place to camp if you want (not for free) and beautiful australian homes to spend the night.

Fantastic experience on cockatoo island, if your looking for something to do in Sydney come to cockatoo island! You won't be disappointed.

It's a UNESCO heritage site, is free and a short ferry ride from circular Quay which in itself is impressive as you go under the harbour bridge. Cockatoo Island is 2 things in one, started as a penal colony then transformed into one of the biggest boatyard in Australia. You can get audio from the information centre and a map and just wander round. There are Huge warehouses, sheds and shops and old turbines and cranes everywhere I was blown away at the sheer scale. They have toilets, coffee shop and regular ferries, well worth a few hours. Enjoy

I camped here, because I want to pitch my tent in Sydney city. The ferry is very frequent and always on time! The facilities are very clean and well maintained! The campsites are grassy and soft.
