Amazing place to relax. The overlooking view of beaches from Two States makes it extra deal for me. I visited the place at 3pm, perfect for capturing instagramable photos to share.

Erected in 1971 to mark the bicentennial of Cook’s voyage, the lighthouse was notable for being the first in the world to experiment with a laser as a light source. However, the laser proved ineffective due to its narrow beam and was replaced with a conventional electric lamp in 1975. The structure comprises four concrete columns, each marked with the cardinal directions, and a bronze sculpture suspended between them. The lighthouse stands 20 meters tall, with a focal height of 44.5 meters, and emits two white flashes every ten seconds, visible up to 11 nautical miles. In 2022, structural issues prompted a significant refurbishment of the site. Completed in mid-2023, the $6.5 million upgrade included enhanced facilities for Marine Rescue NSW’s Point Danger Unit, improved accessibility features, additional parking, and the introduction of the Black Dingo Cafe, offering scenic views of Duranbah Beach and the Tweed River. Visitors to the memorial can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline, making it a popular spot for whale watching during migration seasons. The site also features informative plaques detailing Captain Cook’s explorations and the area’s maritime history. The addition of the cafe and improved amenities has enhanced the visitor experience, providing a pleasant environment to appreciate the historical and natural significance of Point Danger. The memorial is easily accessible by car, with parking available on-site. Its location on the Queensland-New South Wales border makes it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers regions.

It's a place where you can experience the border between NSW and QLD, and when it switches to daylight saving time, the time on your cell phone changes instantly, which was a very strange feeling. It's also a mecca for surfing, with a wonderful sunrise view. Drinking coffee at the KIOSK under the tower while looking out at the ocean below is a special cup that will soothe your daily stress.

The Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse at Point Danger, Coolangatta, is a historic and scenic landmark commemorating Captain James Cook’s 1770 voyage. Unveiled in 1970, it was the world’s first laser-powered lighthouse (now inactive). Perched on a stunning headland, it offers panoramic ocean views, with opportunities to spot whales (June–November). The site features informational plaques, coastal walkways, and picnic areas, making it a great stop for history buffs and nature lovers alike.

Plenty of parking, a nice walking track as well. This landmark is just on the border of Queensland and NSW, nice to visit and read about it.
