The conditions here are large, with ruins over a large area, which the first four photos are an example of. If you are going to see everything within the walls, you need to calculate some time, and if you are visiting the place for the first time, it may be sensible. Water can also be good to have in backup, it can get hot without too much shade. This is a great place to visit for those who like this type of ruins, but it can be recommended for everyone to experience a piece of history from the past. There are various sales stalls outside the walls, and in the surrounding area, and there is plenty of parking before entering the area within the walls.

Located at Khlong Tho Road, Pratu Chai Sub-district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand ??. This historic landmark covers the ruins of the city of Ayutthaya, Thailand. The city was founded by King Ramathibodi I in 1351, though it is thought to be significantly older based on evidence that the area was already occupied during the Mon Dvaravati period. Further sources mention that the area was occupied by the Khmers around 850AD and they established a stronghold naming it Ayodhta after one of the holiest Hindu cities in India ?? at that time. The early history of Ayutthaya is connected to this Khmer settlement. The city was captured by the Burmese ?? in 1569. Though not pillaged, the city lost many valuable and artistic artifacts. It was the capital of the country until its destruction by the Burmese army in 1767. In 1969, the Thai Government began renovations of the ruins, scaling up the project after the site was declared a historical park in 1976. Part of the park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Everything about the site is on a grand scale. It’s huge so be prepared for a lot of walking and wear comfortable shoes. Take your time going through the site, and maybe come by yourself without a guide so you can take all the time you need. Wear long pants and cover your shoulders because they might not let you in if you are not dressed modestly. But wear comfortable clothes as the site is spread out over several kilometres. The entrance fee is 50 Baht, this will get you to all areas. Take water and a hat. Might be best to visit early in morning or afternoon to avoid heat. You can rent a bike as a way of getting around the park. There are several sales stalls selling souvenirs and something to eat. Ayutthaya is a place reeking of history and spirituality. It showcases Thailands rich heritage. It’s a MUST when visiting Thailand. Thumbs Up!!! ???

I finally visited Ayutthaya in my 4th trip to Bangkok and I realised what a mistake I made by not going sooner!! This is a must visit for any history enthusiast. It helps paint a picture about the birth and development of Bangkok. It is very educational but also relaxing and eye opening to see. So many opportunities for nice photos, practice your photography skills at the same time feel you took a Time Machine back in history. Go early to avoid the crowds. Spend the night in Ayutthaya for a more relaxed experience and to see more of the historical sites. I also think it is great to stay to support the local restaurants and guesthouses. Anyways it is a nice change of pace from the big city. You can take tour guide one day and explore at your own pace the next day. To be honest, even after two full days here I would still return just for the visuals of sunsets over the temples and to be around the friendly people of Ayutthaya.
