Hari Raya isn’t just something that children look forward to! ? Even adults love this festive season. From the vibrant lampu laplip that adorn the windows of various homes, to the mouth-watering delicacies that grace the tables of every household, Hari Raya is a time of endless delight and celebration. Personally, I love the ketupat (both to eat and as a decor piece!) because it’s a Hari Raya icon that everyone knows and only sees once a year! Let me share with you 5 things that I look forward to during Raya season and see if you can relate. Hari Raya 2023, here we come! ?

1. Reconnecting with cousins (finally!)

Reconnecting with cousins can be quite the joyous occasion! It’s something I personally look forward to every year. ? Whether you're reminiscing about old times or sharing stories about your recent adventures, there's always something new and exciting to discover about each other when Raya comes along. The older folks usually take this time to share embarrassing stories about the younger ones which admittedly isn’t the most fun conversation but is it really Hari Raya if you don’t take a trip down memory lane and get teased about the past?

2. Festive kueh kueh

Hari Raya is the only time of year when all the festive kueh kueh actually make an appearance (possibly some that you’ve never seen before). Growing up, my mom and grandma always made a couple types of kueh by hand to give to our relatives. From deliciously tart pineapple tarts and buttery almond London cookies to crispy cornflake cookies and nutty peanut cookies, visiting is always like a treasure hunt - gotta taste them all! Plus, each family has their own special recipe so no two kueh will ever taste the same! ?

P.S. For those who want to send your mum’s favourite kueh to friends and relatives, use on-demand courier service pandago to send them at any time, in an hour.

3. The gathering & feasting

Who doesn’t love good food and good company? The typical gathering and feasting experience for my family includes relatives visiting us (because our grandma lives with us!) and spending the entire evening over. ? When gatherings like these are concerned, we can always count on delivery services like foodpanda to help us prepare a feast. We always make sure to check out the promotions to make the most out of our order. Not to mention, there are so many halal restaurants to choose from including Fish & Chicks, Encik Tan, More Batter, Nenek Recipe, Markozar, Buey Tahan See-Food, and Nuodle. There’s always something for everyone!

P.S. Use code LIKEAPANDA to enjoy 30% off food delivery orders from now to 30 April 2023 (min. spend $30).

4. New baju kurung

I love to dress up for special occasions and Raya is definitely one of my favourite excuses to do so. ? There’s just something about ironing the clothes the day before Hari Raya that makes me so happy! Maybe one of the reasons is because I know I’ll be seeing the people I’ve missed like my cousins and relatives soon but as the younger generation, I feel proud to be wearing traditional attire. Afterall, we shouldn’t forget our traditions and customs even as we’re progressing more and more as a society.

5. A chance to showcase #NewYearNewMe

Everyone loves new and shiny things! But you always have to do the dirty work (literally) and clean the home to make room for new things. Spring cleaning is a familial affair and everyone has to roll up their sleeves and pitch in whether it be washing the floor or hanging up the curtains. Even though it’s hard and gruelling work, the valuable time spent with family during this process makes it well worth the exhaustion - I like to think of it as bonding time with the house. ?

But all this cleaning usually happens during Ramadan so we’re a little more tired than usual with the lack of sleep, food and drinks. To make things more bearable, we’ll usually get our cleaning essentials and groceries from pandamart to avoid having to lug cleaning supplies back ourselves. What we love most is that pandamart has over 5,000 products with 24/7 delivery in under an hour! Now there’s no reason to procrastinate on the cleaning. ?

P.S. From now to 30 April, use code LOVEMART to get 10% off $50 (capped at $6)!
