Located in Perhentian Island, The Resthouse sits on its own private stretch of beach which makes it the perfect spot to be away from crowds of people. It was initially built by the British Government and has not been altered between the wars - only getting a makeover through furnishing. What's cool about the place is that a large portion of its proceeds goes towards the Lang Tengah Turtle Watch, a conservative project on a neighbouring island.
Guests are encouraged to spend the day visiting the project to learn how their stay contributes to the conservation of the turtles. Now, if that isn't a reason to stay at The Resthouse, we don't know what is!
The house offers two bedrooms and two twin bedrooms that can accommodate up to 8 guests. Equipped with basic things like towels, a bedside cabinet and reading light, the entire place is completely made out of salvaged wood. That means no rainforest trees were cut! It runs on 100% solar power and guests are encouraged to use the biodegradable toiletries provided and be as environmentally conscious as possible. In this day and age where travel is adapting into sustainability, this couldn't be a more perfect place.
As the shared kitchen only provides breakfast, juices, tea and freshly ground coffee, it's best to shop for groceries on the mainland before arriving. You can also head to nearby resorts and other restaurants located 3 to 5 minutes further down the beach.
If you're whipping up your own food at the house, go ahead and enjoy your meal at the private outdoor dining deck facing the sea. It's not everyday you get a view like this while enjoying your food, so don't forget to snap pictures for memories!
