This story about The Prestige Hotel and trip in Penang is written by one of our contributors, Ainul Fathilah. Some parts of the article may have been edited for length and clarity.

My experience of The Prestige Hotel, Penang

I’ve always fancied a stay at The Prestige since last year due to its unique and fancy design.

They have one of the best ratings on Agoda with excellent reviews. August is my sister’s birthday month so I decided to treat her for a fun-filled trip (fun as in eating all the delicious meals we can find!). And Penang became our first trip after the MCO restriction, combining my desire to stay at The Prestige and hunting for delicious meals.

The Prestige is located in Georgetown and near to the Church Street Pier. It is minutes away from food, art and culture and if you don’t fancy walking, Grab services are always there! It blends nicely with the surroundings (all those Victorian types of buildings) but at the same time pops out with an intriguing character of its own.

The lobby itself transports you to a place of magic and simplicity. I definitely loved the colour schemes at this hotel as it gives you many opportunities to dress up and take beautiful photos.

The room was spectacular; (we were in awe as we entered our room) it was cosy for the two of us. Will definitely recommend it to couples or girls having a fun trip. Checking in, we were greeted warmly by the staff at The Prestige and a special shout out to Mr Zain, the Reception Manager for your kind hospitality. Guests were given free complimentary drinks coupon which you can redeem at The Glasshouse.

One of my main criteria in giving a good hotel review is the toilet/bathroom, and I’m telling you, The Prestige really delivers! The toilet gives you total privacy while the shower stall was built right smack in the middle of the room. Of course, there are curtains for privacy!

Our foodie trip

As mentioned, the trip was also about food. The first thing we did once we reached was to have our brunch at Bee Hwa Café, a Chinese restaurant offering a halal-friendly meal. One must have Char Kway Teow if one is in Penang and that was what we had!

It was quite warm so we headed to the famous Ais Tingkap to quench our thirst with their famous Cendol and Ais Tingkap.

Before checking in, we headed to Penang Hill, solely to go to Kopi Hutan, a small café in the middle of the forest.

Having coffee and cake surrounded by such greenery was definitely a new experience for us. Of course, it is advisable to come here early if you want more choices of cakes because they ran out real fast!

We spent our afternoon walking around the pier and took pictures. We took a peek at the hotel rooftop pool, overlooking the pier. You can also spend time there chit-chatting with your girls at the gazebo.

We had dinner at Karaikuddi, an Indian restaurant located in Jalan Pasar, 5 minutes away from the hotel. The meal was scrumptious and delicious and spicy!

The next day we had breakfast at the hotel restaurant, The Glasshouse located on the ground floor.

The big breakfast was nice though the waffles could be better in my honest opinion. You can always opt out of the hotel breakfast and go out for street food, because you are in Penang, the haven of street food! We checked out around 12.30pm, saying goodbye to this beautiful hotel. Before heading back to our hometown, we made a few pit stops! (For food of course)!

1. Le Petit Four Patisserie

Our favourite café whenever we’re in town! They have the best croissant and those beautiful lemon tarts are to die for!

2. Fried Chicken Monster

We first had this in Taipei, as it is the first halal fast-food chain in Taiwan. Lucky for us, they opened a chain in Penang and we were able to reminisce our wonderful vacation in Taipei.

3. Samosa Transfer Road

I have no words to describe how amazingly wonderful the samosa was!

All in all, we had the best vacation albeit a short one ?
