If you're a foodie like us, you'd probably get excited whenever there's a new halal eatery to check out, especially if it's at a prime location like Kampong Gelam! Looking for a hangout spot in the neighbourhood? The Fabulous Baker Boy at Aliwal Arts Centre is now halal-certified! ?
Owned by baker and theatre actor, Juwanda Hassim, The Fabulous Baker Boy is a bakery-restaurant concept and you can find artisanal baked goods and an all-day breakfast brunch menu! The new spot opened early this year and makes up a spacious 70-seater eatery that was previously the site of halal burger joint, Kaw Kaw SG.

Besides their pastel-coloured interior which will greet you as you enter, you'll be spoilt for choice with more than 14 cakes to choose from. The most popular is the Ab Fab Red Velvet which comes with an extra layer of chocolate ganache. The Big Lub Carrot Cake, Nutty Monkey (banana coconut cake) and Lady Marmalade are top favourites too. Their cakes are known to be moist and richly layered.

If you're feeling hungry, dig into their savoury dishes like the signature Fried Chicken and Waffles, topped with maple syrup. Or indulge in their Eggs Benny, Fab Fry Up or Duck Confit for a scrumptious all-day breakfast. For a sweet meal, opt for the French Toast Banana or French Toast Berries instead!
Fun fact: The Fabulous Baker Boy's staff comprise of a women-empowered team of bakers and cooks as well as floor staff and delivery services who were hired to help friends that were out of work due to COVID-19.
For those looking for something lighter, their Roast Chicken and Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwich will be perfect! What's more, these are made using their in-house sourdough bread. You can also look forward to an array of smoothies, milkshakes, ice-cream and chocolate-based beverages.
