Yangmingshan National Park - Gorgeous nature spot near Taipei, Taiwan

As Taipei is a fast-paced city, many of the city’s residents will explore their own backyard at Yangmingshan National Park to enjoy a breath of fresh air. It’s very convenient to get there by car and buses. With an altitude of 200 to 1,120 metres, there are many scenic spots around Yangmingshan, especially during the flower viewing season in spring. Be amazed by mountain cherry blossoms and rhododendrons to snow-white calla lilies at Zhuzi Lake.

Besides its beautiful scenery, the landscape around Yangmingshan is full of volcanic activity. Head over to spots like Dayoukeng, Xiaoyoukeng, Mazhao and Dashuangzui to see sulphuric springs. Here’s where you can also find the famous Beitou hot spring area which was formed by the volcanic activity of the Datun Mountains.

Beitou is a must-visit scenic spot for travellers and you can conveniently get there by taking the MRT to Xinbeitou Station. Don’t miss out on the Beitou Hot Spring Museum which has been famous since Japanese rule. The hot spring public baths here and the rural architectural style of the British Tudor period makes it an Instagram-worthy spot.

The Geothermal Valley is another spot that you should add to your list. Located next to the Beitou Hot Spring park, the temperature of the Geothermal Valley is between 80 to 100 degrees celsius and you’ll be greeted with a smoggy aesthetic all-year-round. 

Things to know when visiting Yangmingshan National Park

Occupying a vast area, it might be hard to find your way around Yangmingshan, especially if it’s your first time. Start by heading to the Visitor Centre first; it’s surrounded by greenery and has a quiet environment. The centre is divided into a front door hall, ecological experience area, cultural specialty area and more.
