If you're planning to tick off your travel resolutions in 2020, here's another experience to add: tandem skydiving at Skydive Langkawi! Situated near Langkawi International Airport, it's perfect for any adrenaline seeker who wishes to elevate their year to new heights - at 14,000 feet and that's about 9 times the height of KLCC, one of the tallest buildings in Kuala Lumpur!
One of Southeast Asia's tandem skydive experience, Skydive Langkawi's parent company is Coastal Skydive, Adelaide's reputable skydiving company that has been around for almost 20 years! They have three beach landing sites in Adelaide - Aldinga Beach, Middleton Beach, and Semaphore - and Langkawi in Malaysia is their latest! Skydive Langkawi's operation runs in strict accordance with CAAM (Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia) too.
At Skydive Langkawi, the experience begins from the moment they transport you in an air-conditioned commuter van to the centre near Langkawi International Airport. Once arrived, you'll complete some paperwork and attend a safety briefing before take-off. Although jump pants will be provided, it's best to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. You should also avoid wearing open footwear or high heels.
When you're finally up in the air in a Cessna Caravan, a modern turbine aircraft, don't close your eyes because there will be a 20-minute scenic flight where you'll see a spectacular view of the island's coastline and tranquil Andaman sea.
After the sightseeing is over, you'll jump off the plane while being strapped securely to your skydiving instructor. Their team consists of highly experienced instructors rated by Australian Parachute Federation (APF).
All team members are trained and examined in Australia to the APF standards with the approval of the CAAM for operations in Malaysia, so you'll definitely be in safe hands. They also have a female instructor onboard!
If you're curious to know how free-falling feels like, Skydive Langkawi describes it as "floating on a jet of air, and it's the closest thing to flying like a bird that is possible to man". There's no other way to describe it other than our writer's first skydiving experience in New Zealand!
The free fall stops as soon as your instructor opens its parachute. After that, it'll be another scenic bird's eye view of the beautiful Langkawi coastline before you land on Tanjung Rhu beach. The transportation back to Skydive Langkawi is also provided, so you don't have to worry about getting a ride.

Do note that the minimum age for tandem skydiving is 12 years old, and participants who are under 18 years old require a signature from their legal guardian. You're never too old for this once-in-a-lifetime experience as they once tandem skydived with a participant who is 90 years old!
The entire duration takes around 3 hours - from the moment you arrive until you depart from Skydive Langkawi. Since the tandem skydiving experience is a weather-oriented activity, it's best to allow half a day to complete your jump as it can be delayed by weather. The instructors will only proceed when the weather is safe to jump. We recommend contacting Skydive Langkawi before you leave your hotel to check the weather's status.
