This long-awaited scheme is great news for families and friends separated by the global pandemic to finally reunite. Here's What You Should Know For The Upcoming SG-MY VTL Scheme
On Nov 8, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysia Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a joint statement that the VTL scheme will be launched between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. VTL land travel via the Causeway or Second Link has also launched recently.
Under the VTL scheme, visitors entering Singapore won't need to serve a stay-at-home notice but will only need to take a PCR Covid-19 test prior to departure and upon arrival. This goes the same to visitors going to Malaysia. Only designated VTL flights are allowed to enter Singapore. Additionally, unvaccinated children below the age of 12 are allowed to travel under VTL but they must be accompanied by vaccinated adult.

The Edge Market reported that Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob mentioned this VTL is another important milestone for both countries as this will continue to facilitate the movements of people and goods between the two countries. This is Malaysia's first VTL scheme and many are happy that it is with Singapore.
However, in light of the new Omicron Covid-19 variant, Malaysian Health Minister, Datuk Khairy Jamaluddin has announced on Dec 7 that air travellers via VTL are subjected to an RT-PCR test upon arrival at KLIA or KLIA2 as reported by Free Malaysia Today. Same goes to land travellers via VTL whereby they are required to take a professionally conducted RTK-Antigen Covid-19 test two days before departure to Malaysia. Upon arrival at Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru, they have to take the same test, also professionally conducted. Both air and land travellers via VTL must take a Covid-19 self-kit test everyday for 6 consecutive days when they are in Malaysia and the test results must be uploaded on MySejahtera app.
