As a dedicated food explorer (not really, but I will for Mcdonald's), I jumped at the opportunity to taste the improved Nasi Lemak Burger at McDonald's, available from 27 July 2023. I went for the media tasting at Kampong Buangkok (which, btw, was awesome and you should check out our video here) With an attractive price point of $8.30 for the a la carte option or $9.30 for the Extra Value Meal, should you try it? Let me help you out!

Review of: The Nasi Lemak Burger

The first bite of the Nasi Lemak Burger left me thoroughly impressed. The crispy and juicy fried chicken patty, marinated with various spices, was an absolute delight. Topped with a fried egg, caramelised onions, crunchy cucumber slices, and a generous slathering of sambal with a spicy kick, it captured the essence of Nasi Lemak in a convenient and delicious handheld form. While dialled down the sweetness compared to the previous version, it compensated with a bolder, spicier flavour profile, making it a true winner in my books of good food. For one, the sambal sauce, which used to be sweet, is now savoury. The fusion of traditional Nasi Lemak elements with the convenience of a burger was a stroke of genius, making it easier to enjoy while invoking a sense of nostalgia. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite, though admittedly, feeling a tad guilty as if I was betraying the traditional dish itself.

Spice rating-wise, I'd give it a 3 out of 5, but if you can't handle spice well, be prepared for a 4.5 out of 5 experience! You will taste the Belcan and Lemak more! Overall, this delectable burger deserves a perfect 10/10 rating for its unique twist on a beloved dish.

Now, let's talk about the Bandung Frappe. A refreshing twist on a classic, this frappe blended the floral taste of rose syrup with the creamy goodness of a frappe. Although I opted for the version without whipped cream and chocolate drizzle, it still impressed me with its authentic Bandung flavour. On a hot day, this cold and sweet drink is the perfect companion to your Nasi Lemak Burger adventure. However, I'd recommend going for a larger size, as it's so delightful that you might finish it before you know it. My preference for a less sweet beverage holds it back slightly, earning it an impressive 9/10 rating.

The side of Potato Wedges proved to be a delightful addition to the meal. With a crispy exterior and a soft interior, they showcased the perfect balance of texture. However, I made the mistake of letting them cool down, which impacted their overall taste. I'd highly recommend having them while they are hot, which enhances the experience. As a result, I'd rate the Potato Wedges an 8/10.

As a dessert enthusiast, the Cocoa-nut Pie was an exciting treat. Its cocoa-infused crust encased a luscious coconut filling, mimicking the appearance of an actual coconut. Beyond its adorable appearance, the flavours melded beautifully, creating a delightful combination of cocoa and coconut. The punny name only added to its charm. This delightful pie earned an 8/10 rating.

Here’s the deal, the improved Nasi Lemak Burger at McDonald's is a must-try for all food enthusiasts. It pays homage to a beloved dish while adding its unique spin, resulting in an extraordinary taste experience. Pair it with the Bandung Frappe, and you'll have a match made in culinary heaven. Don't forget to enjoy the delectable Potato Wedges and the delightful Cocoa-nut Pie to complete your meal. So, if you're looking for a blend of traditional flavours with a modern twist, mark your calendars for 27 July 2023, and head to your nearest McDonald's outlet to embark on this delightful culinary adventure!
