Food served on a leaf is nothing uncommon. Some of our everyday favourite dishes like nasi lemak or pad thai are served on a leaf but did you know that now you can have your noodles with gravy in a leaf bowl too??

Tucked away in a corner of Tampines is Pondok Daun Upeh, a hidden gem which serves noodles in a leaf bowl. You must be wondering, is that even possible?

Yes it is! The leaf, called daun upeh, is folded like a sampan and noodles are served in it.

If you're wondering what's this enticing dish above, that's Mee Racun - an absolute MUST-try at Pondok Daun Upeh.

Racun literally translates to "poison" in Malay but rest assured, the only thing poison about this dish is that it's so addictive?

While you're salivating looking at the pictures, you might have recognised that the dish has bone steak in it. Most of us would already be familiar with bone steak but add in some maggi noodles and prawns and BAM, you have Mee Racun! This delightful mix of flavours creates a tantalising blend of sweet and spicy?

The gravy in the Mee Racun is thick and yummy, it's perfect for those who like a lot of gravy on their noodles?  You'd definitely want to savour every last bit of it off the leaf!

This Muslim-owned stall sells a variety of other dishes too so even if you're not a fan of bone steak, don't worry! The Beef Hor Fun and Mee Bandung is also highly recommended (and yes, they are served in the daun opeh too?)

In case you're wondering how to get to Pondok Daun Upeh, you can easily take the Downtown Line and alight at Tampines West MRT station. The eatery is just a five minute's walk away. So, there's no excuse not to go! Time to gather all your friends and make that trip to the east.

#HHWT Tip: If you want to eat noodles in daun upeh, do come after 3pm as they only serve breakfast and Nasi Padang in the morning.
