In lieu of relaxing restrictions in Singapore, we decided to go back to our sorely-missed buffet adventures again! This time around, Ramadan coincides with my sister’s 21st birthday, and it definitely has to be a buffet fit for the special day ? In the spirit of her finally entering adulthood, we decided to have an intimate celebration-cum-iftar meal at Hotel JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-la, which is also having its own special celebration; their first iftar buffet ever, and here’s how it went down ?

Lobsters, Prawns, Black Angus Beef, Dum Biryani For Your Iftar Meal At Hotel JEN Singapore Tanglin This Ramadan 2022

The first thing you might notice the moment you step into J65 at JEN Singapore Tanglin, is their high ceilings, vibrant mural walls and tall windows overlooking the alfresco seating area - it’s chill, it’s laidback and perfect for leisure, enjoyable meals for us, which is exactly how buffets should be enjoyed! ? Plus, it’s got a super aesthetic, IG-worthy interior to boot, so you can expect me and my sister (mostly the latter, to be frank), to be snapping endless pictures all for the ‘Gram ?

Seafood lovers (like me), your dream of digging into endless lobsters, squids, prawns, clams and more will become a reality here. JEN Singapore Tanglin has a seafood-centric buffet, and it's an overflowing sea of all your favourite crustacean delicacies at one spot. One meal you need to look out for is their Live Station with Tom Yum Hot Pot. You can choose a selection of squid, prawn, clams and baby lobsters, where you can watch your food being prepared and cooked in a simmering, spicy broth made with lemongrass, ginger and garlic right in front of your very eyes! The broth is boiled for approximately 2 hours to extract the rich flavours, so if it’s already a feast for the eyes, you can imagine what the taste is like: spicy, sour, savoury and most importantly, addictive! ? I kept going back repeatedly, and put on my best nonchalant face while asking for yet another bowl. I’m not sorry, I just can’t get enough of it! ?

P.S. Can’t get enough seafood? One of their hot favourites, Wednesday Lobster Rock 'N' Roll Buffet, will remain as an iftar treat as well!

My parents are not big on seafood; but not to worry, JEN Singapore Tanglin serves up a tantalising spread of international cuisines that’s bound to make you drool. For starters, you should try the Braised Black Angus Beef with Ranch Sauce. It’s straight from the chef’s table, so it’s safe to expect the best of the best. The beef is first seasoned with a mixture of herbs and spices and left to marinate for about 2 hours ? Afterwards, it is braised low and slow until it falls apart tender, for a rich flavour which is further enhanced by the generous servings of their tangy, sweet ranch sauce. It was a hit for them, so if you're a meat lover, you're in for a treat ?

Of course you can’t leave without trying their main highlight: 24-Hour Marinated Roasted Whole Lamb Hyderabadi Dum Biryani. It’s not a stretch to say that curry flows through our veins, so this dish definitely felt like a warm welcome home. A whole lamb is roasted and marinated with 10 spices such as cumin, fennel, coriander, cinnamon, and cloves for 24 hours, to achieve the crispy texture of the lamb ? Slice it open and you’ll taste succulent slices that simply melt in your mouth. Pair it with their fragrant, saffron-infused basmati rice, and a ton of flavours will erupt slowly in each bite; eat as slowly as you can to get the full flavour profile. Your girl needs to have her biryani fix at least once a week, and this pretty much got my cravings covered straight till the end of the month. This dish will be available at the Ramadan Buffet daily except Wednesdays and Fridays, so plan your buffets accordingly! ?

There are also other dishes that are worth a mention, such as the Japanese counter. With an array of sashimi, maki rolls and sushis, the Japan-sized hole in my sister’s heart is temporarily filled. There are also other delectable alfresco stations and appetisers, which I won’t divulge too much of its taste (it’s all good, no worries), so it’s best for you to try it for yourself ? You can have a sneak peek of the menu (and a reservation booking) via this link. Another popular buffet of theirs, the Friday Seafood Mania Buffet will also be a fixture during their iftar sessions, so get your bellies ready! ?

In short, my experience was nothing short of amazing. JEN Singapore Tanglin is a good definition of what buffets are all about: not just a way to fill up our bellies, rather it’s the experience of being in the presence of your loved ones with the additional bonus of a mouthwatering spread. I bet your family, just like ours, are so caught up with our busy lives, so having a meal together slows down time and celebrates the most important thing in our lives: each other!
