With the many parks and gardens in the city, you might be wondering how to choose where to have a picnic in Singapore, whether to hang out with friends, family or your significant other ? Now that restrictions are slowly lifting, there's no better way to spend quality time with your loved ones than by laying down a picnic mat, some food and just chatting or playing games. All these while basking in the greenery that our garden city has to offer. Here are 22 picnic spots in Singapore you'd love!

1. Marina Barrage picnic

A picnic list wouldn't be complete without including the iconic Marina Barrage. You wouldn't want to pass up having a picnic overlooking the stunning Singapore skyline ? Besides hanging out with your loved ones, you can also fly a kite, catch the sunset and watch the city light up.

2. Singapore Botanic Gardens

The picturesque Singapore Botanic Gardens is probably the next place that comes to mind when you talk about having a picnic! This UNESCO World Heritage site is a great place to just relax amongst the sights and sounds of mother nature ? There are many open fields in the vicinity of the gardens. We recommend laying out a mat on the open field overlooking the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. If it rains, head over to the Bandstand for some shelter. Oh, and don’t forget the picnic basket!

3. Gardens by the Bay

Besides the majestic Cloud Forest and stunning floral displays, Gardens by the Bay's free areas (including the Supertree Grove!) are also great for a picnic day out! With plenty of green open spaces like its Serene Garden, Dragonfly & Kingfisher Lakes and more, you'd be able to find a quiet spot for a picnic here. The Serene Garden is a great place to experience the tranquillity with trees, fountains and ponds, inspired by Japanese zen gardens ☺️

4. Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant

For a picnic spot overlooking the city that's not Marina Barrage, the green roof at Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant is a new place you should explore next! Opened in September 2020, this is Singapore's fourth and newest desalination plant. The best part is that it's easily accessible from the East Coast Park connector and Gardens by the Bay East!

5. East Coast Park

If you want the best of the sun, the sea and the greenery, then East Coast Park is your best bet! With a coastline stretching 15km, it's no wonder that East Coast Park is so popular with families ? For an undisturbed picnic time with your loved ones, head over to Area F as it's further away from the crowded areas of the park.

6. Fort Canning Park

If you're looking for a picnic spot in the heart of the city, Fort Canning Park has got you covered! Though it used to be the site of palaces of Malay Kings and command centre during World War II, it's now a scenic spot. 7. HortPark

HortPark's gorgeous lawns, themed gardens and play gardens are the perfect picnic spots especially for those of you with kids! 8. St John's/Lazarus Island

For a rustic vibe which feels like a world away from mainland Singapore, head over to St John's and Lazarus Island for a picnic! Use one of the picnic tables at St John's or lay down your picnic mat while enjoying the sea breeze. St John's Island is also connected to Lazarus Island via a causeway. 9. Sentosa

10. Jurong Lake Gardens

If you live in the West or you're looking for a little exploration in the West, the scenic Jurong Lake Gardens makes a good spot for a picnic. It's the perfect place to grab some fresh air and enjoy serenity, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. There are 3 sections in this 90-hectare garden but only the Lakeside Garden is currently open while the Chinese and Japanese Gardens are closed for renovations till 2021. The Lakeside Garden has a lalang field (called the grasslands) and a lone “Instagrammable” tree - a perfect photo opportunity! ?

11. Upper Seletar Reservoir Park

13. Pasir Ris Park

Next is Pasir Ris Park, another relaxing picnic spot in the East! If you're looking to have a picnic with your kids, the park has plenty of playgrounds and play areas. For the best picnic spots, head over to Area 1 or 2! If you're a nature lover, you might want to head off to the mangrove swamps and nature trails in Pasir Ris Park too.

14. Sembawang Park

An underrated spot in the North of Singapore, Sembawang Park has lush heritage trees and plenty of spots for a nice and relaxing picnic. You can also find a glimpse of colonial history at the park as Sembawang used to be a British naval base. Check out interesting spots here like the Beaulieu House, Sembawang Jetty and the nearby Masjid Petempatan Melayu Sembawang, one of Singapore's last kampong mosque.

15. Labrador Park

For stunning views of Singapore's Southern seas, the Labrador Park is a tranquil spot for a picnic. Or walk along the Berlayer Creek which is one of the two remaining mangroves in southern Singapore. The Bukit Chermin Boardwalk also gives you a panoramic view of the sea.

A popular spot for those living in the West, West Coast Park is great for a fun picnic day with the family. The park has plenty of open spaces where you can lay down your picnic mat. For those with kids, you'd love Adventure Play Area which has obstacle courses, space nets and more!

17. Pearl's Hill City Park

This park is hidden in a quieter corner of Chinatown, with it being built around a reservoir on the top of the hill. Relax along the many benches found throughout the park, or lay out a picnic mat by the shaded huts. The lake with numerous lotus plants and the surrounding Tembusu trees adds on to its serenity, making it a nice, peaceful break from city life ?

With a beautiful zen garden theme complete with bridges, clear waters, and lots of sitting areas to sit and relax by, Toa Payoh Town Park is a great place to live out your romantic fantasies with your oppa partner. It's relatively quiet on both weekdays and weekends, making it a perfect chillspot if you and loved ones are just looking to sit back, relax, and picnic.

19. The Star Vista’s Star Terrace

The Star Terrace located within The Star Vista is another hidden spot for a great picnic! This area is decked out in wooden planks, making it comfortable for you to just set up a picnic. Since it’s on the third floor, it offers a scenic view that looks even more stunning at night.

20. PAssion Wave @ Jurong Lake Gardens

PAssion Wave may be known to those who are familiar with the water sports programmes offered by the People’s Association in Singapore, but the recreation centre outside the PAssion Wave office at Jurong Lake Gardens is a nice and cosy spot away from the sun. While there are no benches within this area, it's big enough for you to find a spot you like, lay your mat and settle down. While this is indoors, the area is only partially enclosed, so you’ll still be able to experience the cool breeze of the wind ?

21. Jewel Changi Airport

Jewel Changi Airport’s HSBC Rain Vortex is the perfect spot for a cooling indoor picnic in Singapore! Yes, you heard that right, you can have a picnic in the mall! ? Take in the grandeur of the magnificent waterfall as you find a cosy spot at the Level 1 seating area to spread out your mat. We suggest bringing along a jacket because it can get quite cold here. And if you forgot to bring some snacks, simply head on over to one of the eateries in Jewel for last-minute supplies!

22. Bedok Reservoir Park

This popular park has many shelters all over the park to provide some shade from the sun! There's also a lot of activities for you and your loved ones to do, such as cycling or running around the park, or even get even more outdoorsy at Forest Adventure! ☺️
