So, we woke up this morning to the news of an earthquake in Osaka, Japan. This is the first earthquake to strike the region in the past year ? Although there have been no major damages so far, it's always best to take precautions and keep yourself updated on the situation. So, if you're around Osaka or travelling to Osaka anytime soon, here are 3 things you should know:
1. How strong is it and where did it strike?
Japan's meteorological agency has measured the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 around 8am local time and the epicentre of the quake is in Takatsuki city in northern Osaka. So, that means the strongest tremors were felt in northern Osaka and Kyoto, although tremors were felt in other parts of the region too ? But Alhamdulillah, there's been no warning of a tsunami as the earthquake happened inland.

2. What's the latest update on the situation?
So far, there's been 3 deaths and hundreds of others were injured. It's also been reported that more than 170 thousand homes have been left without power, with fire and flooding in some areas in Takatsuki city. Many Osaka residents also said they felt intense tremors and had their household items broken ?

There's also been delays in public transport as all trains and subways across Osaka city have been halted. Plus, the shinkansen bullet train which links Tokyo and Osaka has been suspended as authorities need to check for damage to equipment.

3. What you should take note of?
As with any earthquakes, there might be bigger aftershocks following this earthquake so it's always best to keep yourself updated with the various Japanese agencies and news media. And as obvious as this might sound, Japanese authorities have warned the public not to go near damaged areas.
