Best New Cafes In KL 2019: 6 Muslim-Friendly Places For Your Next Hangout

The cafe scene in KL is one that constantly changes, with new cafes continuously opening-up. No complaints here, it just means we have new places to try when hanging out with friends, going out for weekend brunch, or looking for spots to get our caffeine fix!

If it's hard to keep track of the new places that have sprung open this past year, don't worry because we've got you covered! Here's a round-up of the new cafes you need to try for 2019.

1. Apronfools

Apronfools is a new cafe in Subang Jaya that is serving up some delicious bakes, including cakes, doughnuts, brownies, and more! With a selection that rotates weekly, you can look forward to favourites such as Lemon Crumb Loaf and Carrot Walnut cake, and also more unique bakes such as the Speculoos Biscoff cake, Vanilla Funfetti cake and the Brooklyn Blackout cake!

They also serve a selection of savoury foods like pasta, cheeseburgers and spiced meatballs, so you'll be able to have a delicious meal with mains AND dessert. Apronfools sells some of their bakes (like macadamia milk chocolate chip cookies!) online so you can even pick up a jar or two from the comfort of your home.

2. Pokok.kl

Pokok.kl is a beautiful cafe housed in a glass and brick structure located near MAHSA University. Opened late last year, you may have not had a chance yet to visit this lovely place! The cafe offers abundant natural daylight and is backdropped by lush greenery, making it every Instagrammer’s dream ?

The cafe serves a mix of western and local dishes, from burgers and brunch favourites to Nasi Lemak and of course, coffee. The beautifully plated dishes and pretty beverages will ensure that the flatlay game will be strong at this cafe ?

Chubbeecloud (Closed)

Add a splash of colour to your Instagram feed! Find unicorns, fluffy clouds and bright rainbows at Chubbeecloud! Take photos in a bathtub with bright neon lights, or pose in front of a whimsical dessert cart – this place was definitely designed with the Instagrammer in mind

3. Upstairs Cafe

So Upstairs Cafe in Subang Jaya isn't exactly new. BUT! They've recently undergone some major refurbishments and re-opened with a brand new look, so we've included them in our list!

This cosy cafe is located on the first floor of a row of shops located just across Subang Jaya Medical Centre (now known as Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care). The spot has grown to become a neighbourhood favourite and serves a full menu with brunch favourites, western dishes like pasta and burgers, and also baked goods (try the red velvet cake or cupcakes!).

The new-and-improved Upstairs Cafe still serves up all your all-time favourites, but we've been seeing new additions  (like homemade kombucha ?). Follow their Instagram to see what's being cooked up in the kitchen!

4. F.R. Copper

F.R. Copper is a relatively new cafe in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. The clean white and copper decor of the cafe is definitely a pleasing sight for cafe-hoppers.

5. Kettlebell

This one is for the health-conscious or just lovers of beautiful food! Kettlebell's been open since the second half of last year and is located in front of Firestation gym at Plaza Mont Kiara, but it's not just for the gym-goers. This small cafe is sure to charm you with its pink tableware, pink lattes (!), and beautifully plated dishes.

You can expect food that's nourishing, healthy and hearty at Kettlebell. From rice bowls with toppings like smoked duck, tofu, tempeh, chicken to avocado toast and smoothies, it's the perfect food for those wanting to get their greens in or are trying to eat clean. Don't forget to order a pink latte (the colour comes from beetroot!) or a matcha one to complete your meal.

Looking for a nice pretty cafe with baked goods and good coffee for an intimate catch-up with your BFF, a cafe date with your better half or some alone time? Kiara Cakes may be just the place for you. This cafe in Mont Kiara (just down the road form Garden International School) serves up a rotating selection of cakes and pastries that's perfect for some chill cafe time.
