Back in March 2021, we shared the possibility of cross-border travel between Malaysia and Singapore. While Malaysia is still pulling through the pandemic, we have good news for fully-vaccinated Malaysians who are planning to visit Singapore in the near future.
As reported by The Star, fully-vaccinated Malaysians may be allowed to use MySejahtera app as a vaccination passport to enter Singapore. If this move is successfully finalised, Singapore will be the first foreign country to recognise Malaysia's MySejahtera app as a vaccination passport.
“Once you have the yellow profile on your MySejahtera, that means you are fully vaccinated. We will use the QR code once the Covid-19 Emergency Management Technical Committee recommends allowing certain freedoms (such as international travel) that are not currently possible,” said Malaysia's National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
The Star also reported that MySejahtera app may be accepted for international travel in the future, and the government is currently in talks for mutual recognitions for digital vaccination certificates between different countries.
MySejahtera is an app that assists the Malaysian government in managing the country's COVID-19 pandemic, helping citizens to monitor their health and getting treatments, as well as providing locations for the nearest hospitals and clinics that provide COVID-19 screening and treatment in Malaysia.
Available for free on Android and iOS, MySejahtera can be used by Malaysians and residents of Malaysia as well as system administrators in the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
While Malaysians miss spending their long weekend in Singapore and exploring exciting attractions that the Lion City has to offer, our hope remains high that both countries will be able to relive their favourite travel memories once more.
