SHOCKING NEWS - 3 luxury hotels in Harbin, China have been accused of violating hotel cleaning procedures after a video of several cleaners using a toilet brush to clean utensils surfaced earlier this week.  Originally published by Pear Video, the video shows cleaners from Sheraton, Shangri-La and Kempinski hotels using toilet brushes to wipe the toilets, bathtubs and sinks. Later on, the staff were seen using what seems to be the same brush to rinse drinking cups before wiping them dry using a used bath towel.

According to a report by China Daily, despite charging 800 yuan (S$160) to 2,800 yuan for a room per night, all three hotels failed to prepare new bath towels, bed sheets and pillow cases for new guests. In an official statement on Sina Weibo, the Kempinski Harbin said that they were "...[s]orry to learn about the substandard conditions found at our hotel..We have been working on providing our guests a friendly and safe environment with strict policies. We will co-operate with the investigation and strengthen measures to avoid similar problems."

Following the release of the video on Tuesday (26 December 2017), the city of Harbin has since launched an ongoing citywide inspection of all hotels.
