JUST IN: Malaysia To Go Into A Nationwide Lockdown Starting From 1 June

Malaysian Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has officially announced today that Malaysia will be going into total lockdown starting from June 1 till June 14.  “This decision was made after taking into account the current situation of the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia with daily cases surpassing 8,000 and over 70,000 active cases,” he shared in a statement.

This upcoming lockdown will be similar to the first Movement Control Order (MCO) that was implemented last year with no social and economic sectors - except for essential services - allowed to operate during the 2-week lockdown. Along with the announcement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has shared that a list of essential economic and service sector will be announced by the Malaysian National Security Council (Majlis Keselamatan Negara Malaysia) soon.
