As we can't travel right now, one of the ways to fuel our wanderlust is to reminisce our travels. Recently, the Malaysian government announced the possibility of Langkawi being the first destination in Malaysia to reopen for leisure travel in September or October 2021. While we can only wait in anticipation, our Tribes by HHWT member, Farhana Ayu looks back on her memorable Langkawi vacation and shares useful tips for your future trips!

P.S. Here's some inspiration for your future trip:

Reminiscing my family trip in Langkawi

It was our 2nd trip to Langkawi but this time as a Family of Four. On our family trips, we love to split our holidays into 2 types of accommodations so that we could experience the best of Langkawi in different environments.

Staying at The Gemalai Village

So for the first 2 nights, we stayed at The Gemalai Village which have 1 and 2-storey Teratak Huts overlooking the rice paddy field giving more of a traditional, Kampong, close to nature feels.

Waking up to the sound of roosters crowing, birds chirping, the Boys morning activity of chasing after Chickens, our breakfasts served on a bamboo woven platter and having it by the rice paddy fields were something the city-dwellers like us missed out on. Staying at The Gemalai Village was the highlight of our trip as it reconnected us to nature and we surprisingly felt very much at home with the whole Kampong ambience and experiences.

Rice farming and cultivation at Laman Padi Langkawi

Being located next to Laman Padi Langkawi which is a Rice Garden Museum, we got to learn about Rice Farming & Cultivation.

It provided a rich and first-time experience for us to not just to try out Planting Rice but also learnt how to dehusk and grate the Coconut in a very traditional way and tasting the freshly grated Coconut too.

We were also introduced to a variety of plants and fruits like the Noni fruit, where we also learnt what they are used for.

We truly enjoyed this personal guided tour which we get to experience how it's like working in a Rice Paddy Field.

Nature spots and must-do activities in Langkawi

There are so many scenic and nature spots and activities you can experience in Langkawi such as the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, Pantai Cenang, SkyCab & SkyBridge Langkawi, Langkawi Wildlife Park and going for Mangrove Tours.

Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls

Skycab and Skybridge Langkawi

Pantai Cenang

Langkawi Wildlife Park and Mangrove Tours

Our favourites are the Langkawi Wildlife Park and Mangrove Tours as they provided an opportunity for us to be really up-close and personal with the animals, some of which we have not seen before like the Civet Cat and Giant Rabbit.

We also got to feed the deers, ostrich and other animals from the Wildlife Park.

For the Mangrove Tours, besides going on the mangrove boat ride and eagle feeding, we also get a feel of touching jellyfish and stingrays at the Fish Farm and going into a Bat Cave.

Another thing we love about Langkawi is that it is very easy to rent a car from the airport and drive around the Island. We also heard from locals that it will be hard to get lost in Langkawi!!

Ending our Langkawi trip with a stay at the luxurious Westin Langkawi

We ended the last few nights in Langkawi at our second accommodation which is at Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa. It is a beautiful and luxurious beachfront resort with 4 outdoor pools and had its own private beach with a perfect scenic sunset view.

Our stay at Westin Langkawi was very comfortable, easy to get around the city and we love our Westin breakfasts especially their Teh Tarik and dining with a view of the sea.

I am sure that once we are all allowed to travel, Langkawi will definitely be the place we will want to return again, again and again!

Besides Langkawi, here are other destinations in Malaysia that are slated to reopen.
