Planning your next family getaway to JB or a weekend food hunt in KL? We have some amazing news that will make your cross-border travel so much smoother.

Starting 12 December 2025, the long-awaited Electric Train Service (ETS) will officially connect Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. No more worrying about heavy traffic on the North-South Expressway or long bus rides—you can now zip between the two cities in record time.

Travel from KL to JB in under 5 hours

Currently, the diesel-powered trains take about 7 hours to reach JB from KL. But with the new ETS3 service, your travel time will be slashed to approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours.

The trains travel at speeds of up to 140km/h, meaning you’ll have more time to spend exploring Johor’s cafe scene or shopping at Mid Valley Southkey, and less time staring at taillights on the highway.

What to expect on board

If you’ve never taken the ETS before, you’re in for a treat. It’s perfect for Muslim families and solo travellers alike. The ETS3 carriages are modern and comfortable, featuring:

  • A Cafeteria: Perfect for grabbing a halal snack or a hot drink while watching the scenery fly by.
  • USB Charging Ports: Keep your devices charged throughout the journey.
  • Prayer Facilities: Most ETS trains have a small musolla (prayer area) on board, making it easy to perform your prayers while on the move.
  • Onboard Toilets: Clean and accessible for a hassle-free trip.

Where does it stop?

The route includes major stops such as Bandar Tasik Selatan, Seremban, Gemas, Segamat, and Kluang, before arriving at JB Sentral.

For our Singaporean friends, once you arrive at JB Sentral, you are right at the heart of the city and just a short walk from the Causeway immigration.
