There are many things to do in Kuala Lumpur for kids, ranging from exciting theme parks to Muslim-friendly cafes with kids' play area. Out of the myriad family attractions in Kuala Lumpur, there's one that stands out from the rest and that is KL Bird Park. Perfect for the next long weekend in Malaysia, scroll down to see what this beautiful bird park has to offer.

Situated in Perdana Botanical Garden, KL Bird Park (Taman Burung Kuala Lumpur) is a family-friendly attraction in Kuala Lumpur that is home to 3,000 local and foreign birds. Featuring over 200 different species, visitors will have a rare chance to see these birds up close in this tropical paradise.

Known as the world's largest free-flight walk-in aviary, KL Bird Park is different from the usual exhibits we see in Zoo Negara. Most of these birds roam freely along the walkway and it'll be a unique experience for visitors. Amid the verdant valley terrain, this bird park is sectioned into four zones where you can see different species of birds.

  • Zone 1 and 2: Free-flight zone
  • Zone 3: Hornbill Park
  • Zone 4: Birds kept in separated cages and mini aviaries

What's interesting about the free-flight concept in KL Bird Park is the opportunity for these birds to breed naturally in a tropical surrounding. Over the years, these birds have adapted well to the environment too thanks to the abundance of proper nesting sites as well as resources of fallen leaves, twigs and branches.

If you're taking the kids to KL Bird Park, there are many programmes that are perfect to keep them entertained. Some of the daily activities include feeding sessions with ostriches, hornbills, and eagles. You can also catch the bird shows that take place twice daily at the Amphitheatre. We recommend checking the full schedule in advance to plan your visit accordingly.

If you miss any of the feeding sessions, you can take your kids to Zone 4, also known as the World of Parrots, so you can feed the rainbow-feathered Lories too. You can spot other birds in this zone too, including macaws, cockatoos, and parakeets.

Last but not least, capture your memorable family experience at the Feathered Friends Photo Booth. At Photography with Birds section, you can pay a small fee to take photos with beautiful parrots, cockatoos and more.

If you're planning to surprise your kids during the school holidays or long weekends, look no further than a visit to KL Bird Park! For more things to do, check out these super cool indoor theme parks in Kuala Lumpur your kids will love.
