[UPDATED 29 May 2020] The Japan Tourism Agency has clarified that its Go To Travel campaign will be to promote domestic travel within Japan, after COVID-19. This would only apply to Japanese tourists travelling within Japan :( While we'd have to save more for our future Japan trip, let's hope this will also be extended to international tourists. With amazing halal food and breathtaking sights, Japan is a destination we love to visit! While travel is not on the cards right now, Japan has plans to subsidise domestic travel once COVID-19 is under control.
The chief of Japan's Tourism Agency Hiroshi Tabata said in a news conference that the USD12.5 billion (SGD17.8b/RM54.5b/Rp. 184.4 trillion) programme could start in July 2020 😮 The Go To travel campaign will be to promote domestic travel within Japan, after COVID-19. This would only apply to Japanese tourists travelling within Japan though :( But we are certainly hoping that it will be extended to international travellers by offering more affordable hotel stays and cheaper bullet train rides 😝
Japan is looking to revive tourism in the country as the number of foreign travellers fell drastically in April this year, as compared to other years. There were only about 2900 foreign travellers visiting Japan - a 99.9% drop from the previous year. If Japan is on your bucket list and you can't wait to travel there, here are some articles to help you with planning your future trip:  Until then, it's time to save up for your trip and bookmark the places you want to visit!
