KL’s halal food scene is always one to look forward to and if you’re willing to go the slight extra mile for a glimpse of what’s on the outside, you’re bound to find gems like Itik Salai Masthar. Located in Kajang, prepare to blow your taste buds away with the eatery’s most well-known dish: smoked duck curry.
As you walk up to the entrance, spot the gigantic grill off to the side where all types of meats are being smoked using charcoal and coconut husks. The line of hanging ducks and large spread of chicken, beef and fish is an impressive sight to see! They’re seared for about 1 to 2 hours, locking in all the juices and flavours until ready to serve.
You’ll also notice large woks of chopped meat swirling in pools of curry behind the grilling station - an image enough to ramp up your appetite just before you step into the eatery ?
Itik Salai Masthar is one of the few places just outside the city that sells delicious smoked duck. So it’s not surprising that the place can get easily packed with customers on the daily. Plus, they offer dishes starting at only RM5 which gives them a super affordable edge. If you’re planning to drop by the eatery for a meal, we highly suggest arriving earlier than its opening hours to avoid waiting in long lines.

It’s rich, flavourful and has the perfect amount of spiciness, so you definitely can't miss out on it ?
Along with the smoked duck curry, make sure to enjoy it with some rice, salted fish, fresh vegetables and a small side serving of sambal. Then wash it all down with a cold drink of iced tea and you’ve got yourself a wholly satisfying meal that’ll fill your stomach up nicely.
