[Updated 4 June 2021]

When you're craving a soft, sweet slice of swiss roll one of the most famous bakeries in Singapore known for this treat is definitely Rich and Good Cake Shop! This humble business can easily sell out their swiss rolls within a few hours - when their Jewel Changi Airport outlet first opened, you had to arrive first thing in the morning so you could get any slice of cake at all. ? Although there's no Rich and Good Cake Shop online delivery at the moment, you can still pre-order and self-collect at their outlet in Kampong Gelam. And since they're so popular, we decided to see what the halal status of Rich and Good Cake Shop is.

So is Rich and Good Cake Shop halal?

The most straightforward answer is that they are not halal-certified or Muslim-owned but they do use Muslim-friendly ingredients. From their own page, they describe their products as not using any pork, lard, alcohol, or gelatine and previously told us that the cakes are suitable for vegetarians. However, they do not mention if their other ingredients are specifically halal-certified. We have reached out to them to ask about this, and are waiting to hear back. ? In the meantime, we recommend you dine at your own discretion.

Do swiss rolls typically contain ingredients I should be worried about?

Swiss roll recipes are pretty straightforward and usually contain egg whites, sugar, egg yolk, flour, salt, oil/butter, and flavouring. Flavourings may come in the form of anything from vanilla flavouring to kaya to chocolate or even fruits like durian. While they typically do not include any questionable or doubtful ingredients, we recommend you dine at your own discretion and comfort level.

Is there Rich and Good Cake Shop online delivery?

At the moment, no there isn't. You can place your orders through their hotline at 6908 4089 for self collection at their outlet in Kandahar Street at Kampong Gelam. Pre-orders need to be made before 2pm, 1 day in advance. There is no available online ordering system.
