Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks is a famous Taiwanese fast food chain that originated in Taiwan. They are known for serving various Taiwanese street food snacks, such as their signature XXL Crispy Chicken, tempura, oyster mee sua, and other traditional Taiwanese treats. However, you may be wondering if it was halal. Let us answer it for you!

P.S. Looking to head to Taiwan soon? Here are some souvenirs and snacks you would have to get!

Is Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks Halal in Singapore?

Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks is not halal in Singapore. Their outlets disclaim that there’s no beef, pork or lard.

Is Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks Halal in Malaysia?

We have reached out to the outlets, and they could not confirm at this time. we will update once we have confirmation. but do know that it is not halal-certified by Jakim.

Here's what they has to say

"We are currently not certified Halal. This is because we are unable to get all outlets’ agreement to fulfil one of the requirements (to have at least 1 Muslim staff at all times in the outlet), this means each outlet needs to employ 2 Muslim staff as 1 will be resting some days of the week. As some of our outlets are small takeaway outlets, fulfilling this requirement is a challenge. Actually, all customers have all along been enjoying our snacks for years in Singapore and Malaysia and Indonesia. We do not use pork/ lard/ wine as ingredients. Also, we issue a memo to all employees to inform them that bringing pork into the outlet for personal consumption is also not allowed. As far as possible we keep it clean and clear that we serve muslim friendly food.

Not all the supplies come with a halal certificate, as most of them are sourced locally. For example, the wintermelon candy is not certified halal. Our XXL Crispy Chicken sourced from Halal supplier. "
