One of the oldest mosque in colombo. Very spacious and have ample parking space. During pandemic time safety measures are practiced such social distance and prayer mat.

Its also called Zahira Mosque, one of the oldest mosque with ample amount of parking. The mosque is very spacious and can take in 1000s of devotees in for prayers. During ramazan taraweeh prayers are conducted separately for ladies.

Maradana mosque is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Colombo city. It dates back to the Dutch colonial period in early 1770s, when the Dutch first allowed local people to settle in Colombo. From the very founding, this mosque has played a pivotal role in the history of Sri Lanka Muslims. Many historical gatherings and decisions regarding Sri Lanka muslim community has taken place here. Overtime, the mosque has expanded and rebuilt many times. So unfortunately you cant see much of its history visible in the premises. The present buildings all probably date back to the early or mid 20th century. The mosque is situated in a superb location. Its in a convenient and central place of Colombo. The Maradana railway station, schools and bus stops are all around it. So it is a good place to dropby and pray or visit if you are in the vicinity. Safe parking is available with security guards and shoe couters to keep your footwear. The washroom and toilets are ok, though not well maintained. Unlike many other mosques in the city, you usually find enough parking for vehicles. Mind you, the parking area can get crowded during Friday Jummah prayers or during school hours. Maradana mosque is today also known as the Zahira College mosque. But historically, Zahira College was opened as the education arm of this mosque. Zahira college and the Maradana mosque are today two different entities, with seperate management.

Nice and calm pleasent Mosque in Maradana opposite the Railway Station inside Zahira College area. It has served for generations in this location. Often sermons are done by International Scholars
