If you are looking for a market to explore outside Melbourne’s city center, this is definitely a great option. One of the highlights of my visit was stopping by Padre Coffee. As a coffee enthusiast, I really enjoyed their coffee, which was smooth, flavorful, and expertly prepared. It was the perfect way to start my morning before continuing to explore the market. While Melbourne is known for its excellent coffee culture, Padre Coffee certainly lived up to the reputation. I also enjoyed wandering through the different sections of the market and sampling some of the local food. The vendors were friendly, and the overall atmosphere felt less crowded and more laid-back compared to some of the larger markets in the city. Overall, South Melbourne Market is a fantastic place to visit if you want to experience a local market beyond the city center. With great food, a friendly atmosphere, and excellent coffee from Padre Coffee, it is definitely worth adding to your Melbourne itinerary.
What an awesome market, from a visitor's perspective anyway. Amazing deli products, incredible cakes and pastries and sweet delights. Would love to live local as I could see myself shopping for fresh meat and veg and all sorts of delish seafood, deli delights and easy stop for a quick feed
This market is a nice place to walk around, buy snacks, and enjoy some seafood. Prices here are a bit higher than in other markets, but the products seem carefully selected and high quality. The cheese shops offer a wide variety. It’s a very Aussie-style market. If you’re visiting and have some free time, it’s definitely worth a stop.
What a fabulous market. I would live there if I could. It has absolutely everything I could possibly want but the cheeses, meats and wines were unbelievably good. It’s very popular with locals, so plan your parking ahead of time—better still, catch a tram—to beat the scramble for car parking. And leave enough time to eat and have a coffee. So many nice eateries to choose from.
South Melbourne Markets has so much variety like Queen Victoria. So much food to choose from as well as fresh produce and miscellaneous items. Very very busy on a Sunday morning.
