It was my first time patronising the Swensen’s buffet, and it happened to be at their new outlet at Geneo. I didn’t realise how convenient the location was until I got there it is very accessible from Kent Ridge MRT station.

The restaurant is spacious, which made the dining experience comfortable. I decided to treat myself to a birthday lunch, and it felt like a good choice.

The buffet spread offers a mix of local Asian and Western cuisine. There were local favourites like laksa and beef kway teow soup though I skipped the beef options. Other items included chicken wings, fish fillet, satay, turkey meat, pizza, etc and of course a wide variety of ice creams and gelato.

I focused more on the desserts and had four different types of gelato. The quality was satisfying, and the ice cream condiments were generous with options like almonds nibbles and granola. I wanted to try the chocolate fondue, but my stomach was already too full. There’s also a cold section with items like salad and cold prawns, which I didn’t manage to explore this time.

The staff were attentive and cleared plates promptly, keeping the table neat throughout the meal.

Overall, I would recommend going for lunch if it is your first time trying the Swensen’s buffet it’s a good way to experience the spread without feeling too rushed.

Food was generally good. Loved the ambience especially. We quite liked the spread of dishes, especially the new ones such as the stir fried mala. The usual classic dishes such as the chicken baked rice are the ones which my kids had multiple servings. However, we also noted that the servings of the baked rice has become smaller somehow. But I guess it's to prevent overeating.

One of the area for improvement is the roast beef, which was definitely too well cooked. It wasn't reddish on the inside, and it was dry and tough. We told the chef about it but there wasn't any response from him.

Overall it is not too bad. Good value for money as we came on a weekday. Will want to try again on some other occasions!

I visited Swensen’s Genico with fairly high expectations, given the branding, concept, and pricing. The menu looks impressive on paper, with a wide variety of local and Peranakan-inspired dishes alongside Western options. Unfortunately, while the range of food is extensive, the overall execution and quality did not justify the premium price point.

Starting with the positives, the variety is indeed large. There is no shortage of choices, and the buffet spread looks visually appealing at first glance. For diners who enjoy sampling many different dishes, this might initially seem attractive. However, once I started tasting the food, the experience quickly became disappointing.

The laksa was one of the biggest letdowns. Instead of the rich, savoury, and well-balanced flavour expected from a proper laksa, it was overly sweet, to the point where it felt more like a diluted curry with sugar added. The depth of spice and coconut fragrance was lacking, and it did not resemble an authentic laksa at all.

The Peranakan dishes were another major disappointment. Given how proud and flavourful Peranakan cuisine usually is, the dishes here felt under-seasoned, muted, and not up to standard. The complexity and bold flavours that define Peranakan food were missing, making the dishes feel more like mass-produced buffet items rather than thoughtfully prepared heritage cuisine.

In general, many dishes tasted average at best. Some were lukewarm, others lacked freshness, and overall there was little that stood out as memorable or worth returning for. For a restaurant positioning itself at this price level, consistency and quality should be much higher.

The biggest issue, however, is the pricing. At over $60+++ per person, expectations naturally rise. At this price point, diners expect either exceptional quality, standout flavours, or a truly premium experience. Unfortunately, Swensen’s Genico delivers none of these convincingly. The food quality felt more aligned with a mid-range buffet, not something charging a premium per head.

Service was acceptable but unremarkable, and the atmosphere, while comfortable, did not elevate the experience enough to compensate for the food quality. When everything is taken into consideration, the overall value for money is simply not there.

In conclusion, while Swensen’s Genico offers a wide variety of dishes, the lack of flavour authenticity, inconsistent quality, and high pricing make it difficult to recommend. With significant improvements to food execution and better alignment between price and quality, it could be worth revisiting. As it stands, however, it was a disappointing experience and not one I would rush back to. ⭐⭐

Tried Swensen Unlimited @ Geneo on Valentine day evening. Booking online so no need to queue upon arrival. Restaurant is full though. Good spread of food like cold station, various types of curry, western food and the dessert kiosk. The ice cream and gelato flavour is out of this World, with flavour you cannot find outside, like lychee, musang king etc. Although price is slightly on the high side, but the spread is good enough and worth to eat once a while.

Perfect experience at Swensen’s Geneo, Singapore! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and the service was excellent. All the staff were friendly and attentive, especially Saiful, Ian and Mathew, who made our visit extra special with their warm and helpful service.
