Had a quick bite of lamb skewer. Quality is very good. Meaty, soft less fat yet tasty. The lamb might be too gamey to some but I just enjoy the original flavor of xinjiang mountain goat. Pro tip, if the restaurant is full, you may get a quick bite of skewers at the side of the restaurant. You might want to find a stool, order-eat- and pay there.
Really nice traditional Uyghur restaurant in the heart of Shanghai. Halal logo on the billboard. Food is amazing.
Sapar is a low-key but popular Uyghur restaurant serving a Halal menu of food from Xinjiang, alongside a bunch of Chinese dishes. A typical Uyghur dish was the Big Plate Mutton, a stew of tender chunks of mutton along with carrots, potatoes, onions, Shanghai bok choy, and corn in a tomato and red chili broth flavored with spices. We got a side of round Xinjiang Nan bread, which was thin in the center and puffy/chewy on the sides and had a unique fragrance. The Lamb Shashlik was a skewer of lean and fatty lamb grilled to perfection, and the Sautéed Cabbage with Vinegar Sauce was made of Napa cabbage leaves in a surprisingly complex sour and spicy red sauce made of vinegar. Overall, the food here was decent and came at a good price, though the service and atmosphere were quite rustic.
So happy we had the chance to eat here after a long day walking around Shanghai. Everything we ordered was delicious!! And the people who work here are very nice. I would suggest coming here with your family and friends so that you can order multiple items and share. You really want to try 4 or 5 things off of their menu because they have a lot to offer! Very fresh, homemade food near Jing'an Temple area in Shanghai!! Highly recommend!!
