HW5G+J2Q, Preah Ang Phanavong St. (240), Phnom Penh, Cambodia
This restaurant is really fantastic if you want to eat divers Asian food. As a vegetarian I can eat what ever I want without thinking if some dead animal has been killed for my pleasure. My God I did have pleasure in my mouth of the wonderful dishes (see pictures) this beautiful place serves! The only thing the Staff is a bit shy, but if you ask them they can help you to choose one or more of their delicious dishes.
This is a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant. We liked it so much we have eaten several times there during our stay in Phnom Penh. Their food is fresh, tasty and very reasonably seasoned. The staff is young and super nice. They have a long menu, but it looks like they are home making most of their items. The hotpot is very good. I would have preferred more vegetables and mushrooms than fake meat. So may feel industrial made. The main dining room is covered but not closed, so you can hear some cars passing by. Better to seat towards the end of the restaurant.
Food is amazing: well cooked, tasteful, well presented. The menu is basically vegan! I don’t remember the name of my dish but there were vegetables, mushrooms, skin tofu and different kinds of fake meat. The deep fried tofu was amazong as well as the fresh rolls. They gave us a complimentary local dessert consisting of green mung beans, worm-shaped rice jellies and coconut milk (weird and good!). Portions are huge ;) The place is lovely and the people are very friendly and welcoming (like all Cambodian people)
Our only issue here was that the food portions were enormous! We ordered the $13 wrap and roll plate (a mixed entree style dish with 9 items to try) which was shown in the picture on the menu as a typical SE Asian pancake and 2 each of some entrees such as spring rolls. We figured it might not be quite enough from the photo so my partner ordered a banh mi (which was vegan and great, even though he’s not vegan) and I got some fresh rice paper rolls (also good, but also a huge serve) When the wrap and roll plate came out we thought we got someone else’s order. The pancake was the biggest dish I’ve seen during our trip to Vietnam/Cambodia! It would have been more than enough for the two of us alone, but then the other plate came and there were 2-4 pieces each of the other 8 items. We looked like we barely made a dent in the end and felt bad for wasting food, but everything was tasty and we had no issues with allergens. We also got a mixed fruit iced tea and a coconut coffee. The iced tea was sweet, but nice and the coconut coffee was like an affogato, with ice cream, not just milk. The staff gave us a small iced tea to start and a coconut soup before the meal started which were both complimentary, which was a nice touch, but not needed with the size of the meals. The venue was nice and kept cool with fans. The staff were friendly and helpful. Altogether our meal was about $22USD and we could have cut that to $15 if we didn’t order the extra dishes.
Absolutely amazing service and food. Incredible portion sizes, menu diversity. Flavour and ingredients was authentic and exactly what I expected. Truly beautiful presentation. Even brought us a complimentary pudding; I never would have ordered this but will now be a staple order to every Vietnamese dining experience.
