This food here, it is always so tasty. I've already tried the eggplant dish (borani e bademjan) and the dumplings ( mantu), but my go to favorite is the Dizi Stew. If you love tangy and zesty and comfort food, this is it. I come from Central to eat this delicious meal.
Went for lunch and was surprised at the huge portions- could have easily been shared. Loved the flavors, and all ingredients were fresh too. Snuck home with a box of baklava as well at the end. Great value for money and will definitely return for dinner some time. Staff was friendly, and wait time was reasonable considering the quality of food served.
This is my first time experiencing Persian food. Wow! excellent grilled skewers they are fresh and tender served with rice, seasoned just right. The lamb has been smelled well. Great! Dizi stew slow cooked in a stone crock pot with lamb pieces is stewed until tender. You should be careful when eating stew, it will have small bones in it. Here's a cozy restaurant, impressively decorated ceiling with vibrant colors, convenient location easy to see. Staff enthusiastic and helpful. I will be back.
Recently opened taking over the site of the beloved Ziba’s café. They have a blend of Afghani and Persian dishes. Stepping inside the décor has the warmth and charm of the Middle East with pillows, rugs and eclectic brass fittings. Their name might suggest that they are only a kebab shop but they have a diverse menu full of outstanding good value dishes. These dishes include succulent chicken karahi (chicken thighs marinated in a special sauce served with rice or bread), Kabuli palaw (tender lamb shank nestled amongst steamed rice, raisins and carrots) and mantu (flavourful traditional Afghan dumplings with onions, leeks and spices). There are vegetarian options include borani-e-bademjan (bursting with the goodness of eggplant with tomato, peppers and garlic sauce served with rice or bread) and bolani (crispy grilled flatbread stuffed with leeks and potatoes). They also have quite possibly the best shawarma in Auckland. Full of freshness and flavour. Available in lamb, chicken or falafel. All meals are halal. Drinks to accompany the dishes include the tangy fermented yogurt drink, doogh. They also have saffron tea and other soft drinks. Kebab Joint also have traditional Afghani and Persian bread available daily 9am to 2pm.
First time here, food was amazing. Probably the closest I've had to genuine middle eastern food in New Zealand. Highly recommend eating in, chef is amazing.
