I wouldn't normally go to a vegan restaurant but this one came highly recommended by a friend. The service was fantasic with the staff being friendly and welcoming. We decided to go with the set menu and it was great. Too much food for the 3 of us. The fish of the night was the bang bang mushrooms. The char kway teow was my least favourite dish a it was a little bland. A great spot to go in askance Auckland.
This Asian, mostly Malaysian vegetarian restaurant has an up market ambience, good quality food and plenty of vegan options I enjoyed the caramelised black pepper tofu dish we had as well as the truffle mushroom dim sim. would recommend those dishes. the others were okay, but nothing to rave about given the price
Tucked gracefully within Auckland’s vibrant dining scene, East offers an experience that transcends the ordinary. The ambiance is a harmonious blend of contemporary elegance and subtle Asian influences, without falling into clichés. Every detail, from the warm lighting to the impeccable table settings, whispers intention and thoughtfulness. The menu, a masterpiece of vegetarian Asian fusion, is a triumph of creativity and respect for the ingredients. Dishes arrive like little works of art: beautifully plated, with layers of flavor that dance between the familiar and the thrillingly unexpected. Standouts included the smoked tofu dumplings (which could convert even the most ardent carnivore) and the truffle fried rice, a decadent symphony in every mouthful. The wine list is equally refined, with a delicate curation that embraces both local New Zealand treasures and exceptional international labels — and for those feeling adventurous, the cocktail menu is a playground of aromatic wonders. Service is polished yet relaxed, striking that perfect balance between attentiveness and letting you lose yourself in the experience. There’s a genuine warmth to the team that feels rare and precious. East isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a quiet celebration of craftsmanship, hospitality, and the pure joy of eating. Whether you’re a lifelong vegetarian or simply someone who appreciates exceptional food, East will leave you nourished in every sense.
I have been coming to East pretty regularly for around 5 years, the Vegan food is always incredible. One particular new server that I have had three times now is unfortunately tainting the experience. Sadly I don’t know her name but last time I was there she tried twice to take a plate off our table that we were still very obviously eating and had to be asked to stop, sadly this pushy and arrogant behaviour has been consistent in her service. When I sit down and realise she is my server over the other amazing servers, I am disappointed.
