"The feeling of drinking liquid tiramisu has a 0% fishy smell." I visited Cafe Giang, the birthplace of the most famous egg coffee in Hanoi. There are countless copycat cafes, but you can immediately understand why this is the original place with just one sip. Taste & Texture There is no "fishy smell of eggs" that many people are worried about. Rather, it tastes like eating a very rich and savory custard cream or a luxurious tiramisu. The bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the cream create a perfect balance. As you can see in the picture, the cream is quite dense and thick. 2. Recommended menu and price (Menu & Price) Egg Coffee (Cafe Trứng - Hot): 40,000 VND. I definitely recommend the warm version. It comes out in a warm water bath and can be enjoyed gently until the very end. Egg Beer/Egg Cocoa: I recommend it if you want a different challenge, but classic is still the basic egg coffee. 3. Visit tips (Tips) Space: The entrance is narrow, but the interior is deep and spacious. It's good to feel the local atmosphere, but please note that low tables like bath chairs can be uncomfortable. How to drink: First, scoop up the cream with a spoon and taste it, then mix it with the strong coffee underneath. Conclusion: If you've come to Hanoi, it's a must-visit course, not an option. It's a taste that keeps coming to mind even after returning to Korea. I highly recommend it!

Tucked away in a narrow alley in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, it is easy to miss unless you’re looking for it. Inside, it’s particularly busy, with crowds stacked on small stools, tight spaces, and a constant stream of people coming in just to try the famous egg coffee. The egg coffee itself is more like a dessert than a drink. It’s thick, creamy, and sweet, with just a light hint of coffee underneath. The texture is rich, almost like melted tiramisu or custard in a cup. Overall it’s memorable, but not something you’d want every day unless you really like rich, sweet drinks. I’d say it’s trying at least once for the novelty and experience!

As far as I am aware of, the only coffee drink from Vietnam is Vietnamese coffee, the one with sweet condensed milk. I was pleasantly surprised that in Vietnam, Egg Coffee is actually even more popular. Groups and couples all line up at the ground floor waiting for a spot at the second floor. We got a table with cute stools at the corner with hardly any space for a backpack (we had to leave the stroller at the ground floor). We ordered Egg Coffee (hot) and Egg Cocoa (cold). I don't know how they do it but the egg made the coffee super creamy and delicious. The taste is unique but in a good way. I tried the Egg Cocoa, it was also creamy but the taste was a little more familiar like a weird ice cream. Too bad the green rice I wanted to order was already sold out. I would love to visit this place again to try their desserts and other drinks, you should too.

While in Hanoi, I wanted to try the original egg coffee and found this traditional coffee shop. The egg coffee was very creamy and rich with a true original taste. I had tried it before in Ho Chi Minh City, but the one in Hanoi was definitely better. The staff were friendly and the prices were affordable.

The birthplace of the egg coffee and it delivered! I visited at opening after a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake and it was one of the highlights to a perfect morning! With a cafe nearly to myself, service was quick and efficient. Vibe and interior are cool and egg coffee is delicious! I was skeptical at first, but strong coffee under a custardy layer just can't be bad.
