Nice food. The last order is at 8 pm. location is off route so good to map it out before. Food is great. Had the set meal of tofu and vegan fish. Carry cash if you are a tourist. They serve water.
Stepping into 家国素食(bock garden) feels like going back in time before food was overly commercialised. Each restaurant has its own distinct character, based on the recipe and tradition that has been passed down. The lotus root black bean soup was super flavourful, the Assam fish had a good sour taste without being overpowering, the highlight was the "sharkfin" with tofu skin (it was glass noodles). We also had sweet potato leaves and claypot tofu. Friendly service, super decent price and old school feels. Can't ask for any better than this. ?
Revisit this reastaurant, still very tasty foods, love the asam fish n sambal petai
Nice place with good vegetarian food. There are a bunch of vegan and vegetarian cafes in town but if you are looking for zhu char style, this is definitely the place. The building is old but inside is spacious enough to house about 10 tables. Just around the corner behind Chew Thean Yang. This is the 2nd time we went to this place, didn't post reviews the first time till we try out more of their dishes. Food is good, kids love the ku lou yuk and fish curry. The deep fried enoki and Abalone mushrooms are my favourite. Sambal potato leaves are on my top list as well. Might become a regular here!
Their signature Assam Fish was absolutely delicious, and the sweet potato sambal was a pleasant surprise — full of flavor. The owner and staff were humble and welcoming, adding to the overall great experience. It was a full house when we visited, so I’d recommend going early or making a reservation in advance.
