Such a special and warming experience eating here in this family owned restaurant. We ate the hotpot, special soup and oyster omelette as suggested by the son. I Every little element was perfectly thought through and the medicinal broths were cooked for 72 hours with over 30 herbs! We have never eaten something so nourishing it was a real treat. We also got treated to some tea, herbal tonic soup, green Guava (incredibly aromatic!) and delicious braised tofu! I would come back to Kaohsiung just for this meal again. Thank you ?
I ordered the pumpkin pot (with complimentary entree, fruit and tea). The portion is big. The “new age” meat balls taste good. In my opinion, a thicker and more flavoursome pumpkin soup base would make the vegetables taste less bland.
My favorite restaurant in Gaoshiong. Super friendly staff and unique selection of dishes. I usually don't like hamburgers because it leaves me feeling unhealthy and disgusting. But this Guabao is different, it comes with the typical fluffy bread but then the patty is nicely crispy while not feeling too oily. There seems to be some kind of very light mayonnaise, but again it doesn't make you feel like you are eating junk food. Then there's lots of fresh vegetables - so certainly the best Guabao - or hamburger in general for that matter - that I've eaten. The medicinal hotpot is quite strong, so if you don't like the taste of Chinese herbs you might want to reconsider, but I would still recommend giving it a try, as it tastes super unique, dense, healthy and flavorful. It's loaded with different veggies, some of them even beautifully wrapped in cute packages. Very filling and satisfying. The sides such as dried tofu and fresh fruit are very nice, but what especially surprised me was the rice. I'm usually not a big fan of purple rice because it's too sweet, dry and doesn't taste like rice for me. But here the mix between beans, grains and purple rice is perfect, as is the texture. I could have eaten the rice alone and would have been satisfied. The fried tofu comes with lots of Thai basil, so even though of course it's not the lightest taste, it still doesn't leave you feeling heavy. All in all, super tasty dishes, everything freshly prepared in the moment and served with a smile. We received complimentary green tea and herbal tea and both were very good, too. Will definitely come back.
Love the food! So yummy! Highly recommend for vegetarians. Everyone was so helpful and warm. Fresh, healthy and delicious.
Found this amazing restaurant on maps as we were exploring and thought we’d stop in. The owner and all staff were so amazing, kind, and welcoming. The food was delicious! We got the vegetable dumplings and curry noodles. Both blew us away, my boyfriend said the curry noodles were an absolute must have and left him speechless. We will definitely be back!
