We attended a function at Intercontinental Shanghai Expo the night before we checked in to this hotel. Since the dinner ended late, and we couldn't get a taxi back to our hotel, we requested the help of the guy (without a name tag) on duty at the concierge. As foreigners, we were surprised that the guy at the concierge in a reputable hotel, treated us rudely. Our request to get a taxi for the 4 of us was turned down with the reason that it is illegal to carry 4 passengers in a taxi. When we explained that we came to the hotel in one car, he got agitated. We decided to get a 6-seater, with his help from his app and paid him the amount indicated, in cash. When we asked if we could get a receipt for this ride, he raised his voice and said there is no receipt and he may need to pay more from his own pocket, if the driver charges a higher rate. The next day, we checked-in to this hotel for a 3D/2N stay. The experience was so different, as their registered guests. There was no sign of the (rude) guy who attended to us the night before throughout our stay. We did not bring up the unpleasant experience we had the night before, but met wonderful people like Mr Simon Yu & Mr Tyrone Sun at the concierge and especially Mr Tyrone Sun ... who went extra miles to assist us. Overall, we did enjoy our stay in this hotel. We had a spacious room. It is also equipped with 3 types of chargers. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety.

Overall very good hotel. Rooms are large, clean and well maintained. Hotel location seems to be little isolated, as its little far from shopping areas, and no nearby stores for any daily grocery needs/requirements.

This was my first time staying at this hotel in Shanghai. While it is more affordable than the other Intercontinental Hotels in Shanghai, it is really isolated as well (likely hence the lower price). The room was okay...quite standard for this type of hotel. It was clean, modern and comfortable though. And I had a nice rest as the bed was really good. The gym was decently sized, but a bit crowded...but enough to get a good workout in before starting the day. The lounge was okay, although no hard alcohol...only beer and wine. The selection of food was okay though. The breakfast was very spacious with a huge selection of options, including my favorite Shanghai fried dumplings! *) There is nothing within walking distance, so be prepared to take a DiDi across the river (e.g., Jing'an) for decent restaurants and bars.

Our extended stay at the InterContinental Shanghai Expo exceeded expectations, with the exceptional Platinum Ambassador recognition making a genuine difference. Thank you for the room upgrade, which provided stunning river views and really enhanced our stay. The housekeeping team maintained our rooms thoroughly throughout our stay. The buffet breakfast truly stood out - offering remarkable variety and consistently high quality, complemented by attentive service. We particularly appreciated this being included as part of our Platinum Ambassador benefits. The facilities were excellent, especially the well-equipped gym and the wonderful heated swimming pool. The only drawback during our visit was the air-conditioning system, which became locked in "Fan" mode several days into our stay (the "Cool" mode could not be selected). When we inquired, front desk explained it was due to building regulations. While this made our nights rather warm, the staff promptly arranged for a fan to be delivered to our room as a solution. Despite this minor inconvenience, the hotel genuinely felt like a home away from home, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Another issue we encountered during check-out was that our check-out bill was processed in my home currency rather than in Chinese yuan. According to standard payment regulations, hotels ought to ask customers if they want to accept currency conversion at the credit card terminal before processing the payment. I wasn't given this choice, which meant I couldn't decline the conversion rate offered by the hotel and instead use my bank's potentially more favorable rate. This practice (called Dynamic Currency Conversion) typically results in less favorable exchange rates for travelers and should always be optional, not automatic.
