The hostel is very clean, with a very kind and understanding staff. The location is just perfect because the hostel is only a few minutes from the CBD and not far from the beaches (Sydney East). In addition, the washing machine and dryer are free, which is a great advantage for long term backpackers.

1-Star Review: Extremely Disappointing Experience - London Plane Backpackers

As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I always strive to support fellow businesses. However, recent experience at London Plane Backpackers in March was utterly unacceptable and I feel compelled to share it to warn others. I have held onto this feedback, hoping for a resolution, but have received no response or refund despite promises.
Check-in was scheduled for 2 PM, but at 5 PM, room was still not ready. This was particularly distressing as my daughters (16 and 19) were exhausted after traveling and had no place to rest.

When the room (1x Room, 1 Queen Bed) was finally made available, it was shockingly unkempt. The bed covers and sheets were visibly creased and messy, making it clear they hadn't been changed. Even if they had been, the appearance suggested otherwise. The trash bin was overflowing, further indicating a lack of basic cleanliness. The photo attached was after we complained; the initial state was even worse. It is beyond belief that this room was considered "clean."
My daughters attempted to address these serious complaints at the front desk, only to find staff on a break and were told to return in another two hours. By this point, my daughters were so uncomfortable and frustrated that they had already booked another hotel.

From Perth, I tried repeatedly to contact the hostel and speak with the manager in charge. While I understand the general policies regarding online booking cancellations and refunds, the sheer level of inconvenience and substandard service caused by the hostel's negligence should warrant a full refund, if not compensation. We simply asked for a cash refund, understanding that they could liaise with their online booking engine to facilitate this.

At 7 PM, my daughter was contacted and asked to return to reception, only to be informed that a refund was impossible due to the "online booking" platform. This was a further slap in the face after enduring such a dreadful experience.

Exhausted and left without any resolution, my daughters had no choice but to leave around 9 PM, with the manager not even bothering to meet with them.

I have also escalated this complaint to Traveloka and left reviews on their platform, but similarly, no one has followed up or processed a refund. This entire ordeal reflects incredibly poorly on London Plane Backpackers' management and their commitment to guest satisfaction. Avoid at all costs.

Such a terrible place this was. I arrived late from the airport with my wife and two kids, but they did not have our room!! How is this even possible?
They wantet to separate us in two rooms, but the kids were not allowed in the dorms- so they wantet my daughter 6 years old and my 9 year old boy to sleep alone in the other end of the big hostel. Crazy to even sugest it! They were not even able to bend the rules when they made a huge mistanke. I ended up dragging matresses to the small room we had so half of us could sleep on the floor.
We checked out the next morning, 3 days early. They are still, 3 month after, refusing to give us money back from the nights we did not stay through Agoda.
So a BIG warning to families, it's cheap and the location IS great, but it's just not worth the risk.
Then there were the coulored pills my kids found on the floor, and the shared toilets thet were SO NASTY.
If I were 20 again backpacking alone: great place.
With kids and family: NEVER AGAIN

Bunk Bed on Bed, Difficult to climb up and get down. Advantage is of near to king cross metro. Toilet and property is well maintained. Excellent service, kitchen, Sim card, travel brochure and maps are very helpful which is not found in other hostels.Maximum time it is full.

Terrible hostel only because of staff and management, they take the liberty to come in the room and put your clothes in a bin, there excuse was it blocks the passage for other guests whereas my stuff had been there for 20 days and was not the case, they worried about other guests and created problems with actual guests where Ive seen rats pigeons and cockroaches in this hostel, the beds have no curtains for privacy and are not comfortable,and a lot of mold, those are problems they should be dealing with, not where guests put their bags in the room that they paying for, they also threaten guests, especially that it wasn't even that messy, as It was in a corner not blocking any passage. the guests at the hostel are great but the management and staff are the worst I've ever seen, they also have habits to respond to reviews and contradict them, and give actual guests fines and threats to evict them for silly reasons. It really is a shame that this staff are such controlling freaks because the hostel could have been amazing if they worried about real problems instead attacking guests
