We recently had a good time with Kutabex when we visited Bali. Highly recommended to any visitors as we loved our stay. The rooms were very comfortable , spacious and clean,  Air conditioned, fresh towels and beddings, complementary kettle , brush and paste and even a  bath slipper. The view from the pool is absolutely breath taking as we could see the sunset if the sky is clear. Enjoyed our stay.

The location of the hotel is okay, but the room was extremely damp and even had a musty, moldy smell. What’s worse is that when I tried to check in on the afternoon of June 5th, 2025, I discovered that the electronic door lock was broken and couldn’t lock at all. I immediately reported it to the front desk — not only verbally, but also using a translator to make sure they understood.

However, it seemed like there was some communication issue. A person who looked like a manager sent a young staff member (possibly a part-time student) to “teach” me how to use the lock — as if I just didn’t know how to open the door, instead of believing the lock was actually broken.

They asked me to wait in the room while they figured it out… and made me wait for 40 minutes without any update. I finally went down to the front desk again, frustrated, and only then did they agree to switch me to another room. Originally, they were still planning to have someone come and fix the lock on the spot. Completely unacceptable.

The room I was moved to even had a smaller bathroom than the original one. Worst of all, the whole delay ruined my plans to go watch the sunset at the beach that evening.

In total, the check-in process ended up taking nearly an hour — absolutely ridiculous and frustrating.

Overall, it was a really terrible experience. If you’re staying just for the convenience of the location, then maybe it’s tolerable — but otherwise, I honestly wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Any of the neighboring hotels would probably be a better choice.

Stayed for two nights in the Deluxe room.

Breakfast: The buffet had the fewest options I’ve encountered, especially compared to other hotels worldwide. There were no eggs, only one juice option (plus two water choices), rice, pasta, and a couple of other items. They also serve very dry waffles, which you can have made to order.

Food Policy: I was surprised when I tried to take my unfinished cup of coffee and a plate of waffles back to my room, only to be stopped and told I couldn’t leave with them. Apparently, they enforce this rule because it's a buffet, and the concern is that unfinished food and drinks might be “used inappropriately.” I’ve never encountered this strict policy at any hotel before.

Room & Location: There are no windows in the rooms. I confirmed with reception that the Kutabex only has two floors, while the rest of the building is part of a five-star hotel under a different name. Essentially, you're staying in the basement of another hotel.

Cleaning: Housekeeping was okay, but they didn’t change the sheets during my stay, and they left the door unlocked after cleaning. Fortunately, I made sure to keep my valuables with me.

Reception Staff: The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, which was a positive aspect of my stay.

Other Amenities: There are no bathrobes in the room. There’s also a hairdryer available, but it’s only for a two-hour rental at a time.

This was my only bad experience with hotels in Bali. Got very disappointed, our room had cockroaches and lots of mold. We asked to change rooms and got another one on the same floor, but the sheets were dirty and asked to change them. Noises from the AC machines outside can be heard in the room.

Overall the hotel has a cheap appearance trying to pass as more fancy or clean than what it is.

The last floor pool is nice.

Not sure how it's was rated 4stars(for their location, yes, but not the room), it's more of a 2 or max 3 stars instead. Kutabex Beachfront Hotel actually shared the same building with Kuta Beach Heritage Hotel which is 4 stars(cost 3x more)

Their rooms was located at G(ground) & LG(lower ground) with no windows(come with a fake window), mine at LG felt like a dungeon imo, strong "Yin" feeling. Room and toilet were dimly lite, water pressure was low, my shower drainage was choke upon checking in but was cleared the next day after my feedback. Wifi reception was poor. Pool at lvl 4 doesn't offer daybed, no place to put personal items & towel unless you ordered a drink from the bar to used their table, had to put on the steps before the pool

The advantage of this hotel, stone throw to the beach, 3mins walk to the biggest Mall in Bali, cheap(i believe there are better option with windows), staffs were friendly and service was prompt.
