Yu Garden was a real gem. It is absolutely beautiful at night and the lights bring out all the intricate details of the traditional architecture, and the whole place has a magical, almost storybook feel, which makes you feel like you’re transported back to the ancient ages. That said, it does get really crowded, especially in the main walking areas. But despite the crowds, the atmosphere is lively and full of charm. There’s a great mix of things to see, and the number of food options is a big plus with plenty of snacks and local dishes to try as you explore. If you don’t mind a bit of a crowd, it’s definitely worth a visit in the evening when everything comes to life.

If you have time and wish to get an experience of history from the modern and sophisticated Shanghai, it may not be a bad idea to visit a classical Chinese Garden located in the heart of city. Dating back to 16th century during the Ming Dynasty. It is well preserved and features traditional landscapes with rockeries, pavilions, ponds and bridges. It is crowded even on a weekday, non public holiday period. Please take note that last admission is 4pm and garden is closed at 4.30pm.

A very popular and very photogenic traditional Chinese garden (circa 1559). It is deceptively quite a big garden to explore. It's crowded. There are toilet inside and quite a few area to sit and rest. Note: 60 years and older get 50% discount on the entry fee.

Most beautiful bazar/shopping place I ever been! It’s absolutely stunning. Best time to visit afternoon and wait till night so that you can experience its beauty both in daylight and night. The area is huge and there are hundreds of shops and vendors, restaurants, Ayurvedic shops etc. . It consists of many beautiful buildings. there is a pond in the middle and whole places/buildings are connected through bridges. There are some unique shops for traditional Chinese jewellery, gemstones, yea shops and souvenirs. There are two beautiful buildings close to the lotus pond which are more than 100 years old and now being transformed as restaurants. The place is a must visit for its architectural beauty, even if don’t want to shop anything.

We came here during golden week and it was busy to say the least. The garden is still breathtaking though, beautiful culture and of course amazing landscape. I was afraid there might not be any tickets because online it showed that the tickets were sold out, but there were still ticketing booths and we waited less than 5 minutes to buy tickets.
