Tetebatu Sikur, Tetebatu, Selong, Kabupaten Lombok Timur, Nusa Tenggara Bar. 83662, Indonesia
We arrived early at the monkey forest, with the aim of beating the rain. One of the locals pointed us in the right direction and we headed off in search on primates. There were lots of locals from the village collecting firewood and one helpfully pointed out a troop of about seven black monkeys at the top of the trees. When we got back to the start point the staff had arrived and we happily paid the 30k per person entrance fee.
Truly a beautiful forest. We saw the grey and black monkeys and had a lovely hike. Pay the 20k entrance fee and give them extra if you can. It goes to the locals and the forest path upkeep. Ensures these forests remain for all to enjoy!
You have to pay to get in. Not that big an issue. However in the forest it is not visible where the money is actually spend on. We arrived in the afternoon and agreed that we could get in next day for free if we would not find any monkeys. After a 10 minute walk we spotted a few groups of monkeys. Really nice, these are real monkeys. Not like the tame ones that steel your iphone on Bali.
Such a fantastic experience. You have to pay an entrace fee at the beginning of the path. Local guides: Please be careful some locals will follow you to ask you if you want a tour. They will tell you that there's dangerous plants or that you will not see the black monkeys without them. If you stay on the path and if you have a bit of patience, it will be ok without a guide. Finding the Monkeys: Monkeys are wild animals and you can get luck or not. We found some around 15min after starting the walk. You will know it's them bc the tree will start to move and you will hear some guturales noices. Is it dangerous ? Do not be alarmed, they are not attacking. Only be mindfull as they are launching themselves from the trees some branches might fall.
Great walk. The monkeys pulled off a great impersonation of Tarzan, and the local woman were as funny as shit. Just good honest fun. Make sure you pay them, those scythes are sharp
