The museum comprises the first floor of the oriental pearl tower and uses a combination of models and projected images to provide glimpses into street scenes and domestic life of Shanghai's past. I found it engaging. Surprisingly it is free with no crowds and one Shanghai resident I spoke to didn't even know it existed.

A really detailed history of Shanghai, how it developed and evolved over time, including the uprisings and unsettled periods with lots of artefacts, machines, paintings, all really well done but there is a lot of reading and you would need to spend a very long time here to get through it all. There is a roof top garden with a bar / cafe and the cafe outside of the museum serves really good coffee.

THIS MUSEUM IS WORTH A VISIT especially if you are interested in history of China. Spent two weeks in China and just wow. Only believe 10% of what you read. The rest is Bullshit. They do have blue skies. We tried a Tripadeal bus tour and loved it. From the flights to the food, the people and culture. We felt safe at every turn. Just watch what you have to say. Highly recommend this trip. Cheers big ears
