Nishi Honganji Bell Tower

The place is at close approximate to Taipei West Gate the Ximen area. There is a bell tower that was rebuilt during the place's recent restoration project. The English name should be West Hoganji and 西本願寺 in Japanese. There's no actual temple structure any more since the original temple was burn down years ago. What it remains now is the landmark bell on a small hilltop and the site which the temple was once stands on. The park has become a good place for the local resident to host events and take their kids to have some family time together. If you do have the time, come and take some photos here with the old bell.

This is a lovely place to see a small Japanese looking temple high up on a tiny hill. The surrounding is so serene which is ideal for kids and adults to spend some time to relax. Nearby is a tea house which is a good place to chill.

This place is very good to see the history of the city and the buildings and bells of the history of the city. The location is close to the modern area of ​​Ximending, in the Ximen area which is full of history as well. This area also has a garden where visitors can enjoy the splendor of the building and the surrounding scenery. Often also see elderly people sitting and talking in this place, or small children playing in this park. The area is not too wide but very comfortable in the middle of the city crowd.

Inside the teashop that used to be the residence of the temple's abbot, there is an old drawing about how the temple complex looked. This drawing is on the package of one of the tea they sell. After I could see this old picture, I could much better appreciate and feel the atmosphere of Nishi Hoganji Temple. The tea shop is open till 6 pm.

The remains are a short walking distance away and are located in the middle of Ximending. There is no entrance fee, and you can walk up to the bell tower. It has places to sit where you can enjoy the surroundings. There is also a small old Japanese house café just in front of the bell tower.
