Beautiful building. Great volunteer guide. Interesting design features. Not a ninja house. Just A great traditional house with unusual features like a build in private stage. Highly recommend. Mosquitoes where plentiful. Wear bug spray before you go.

Need book in advance via website. Guiding tour is 3times/day(max10psn) Need Japanese speaking in group for safety reason. Ogawa family has owned this house in 350yrs and owner takes us 1hr tour. Interesting history and building. There are hidden stairs, escape route etc that samurai guests could run away from and their guards could battle with energy. Not ninja house, at least not mentioned in their history/fact.

Nijo Jinya is an amazing experience. You must be able to understand Japanese, so it is well worth finding a guide to take you and make a booking. The owner conducted the tour and he explained everything clearly and had some great stories. This will be a real highlight of my trip to Kyoto. Thank you.
