Quite beautiful place if you can go to this place when the weather is good. Not recommend at all if the weather is bad. An enjoyable drive through the jungle where you can see lot of elephant droppings along the road. Didn't see elephants though. The road is very good for driving. The entrance is free but you have to obtain a pass to proceed through two check points. No

A gate pass has to be obtained from the Mahaweli office . But the security guards will allow you to visit the dam even if you haven’t obtained it. Better to go to the office and get the approval. Properly maintained washrooms are available.

A bit of a walk uphill will bring you to a breathtaking view of the reservoir and the dam. Recommend visiting in the morning or evening otherwise it's too hot and too sunny if you want good photographs.
