The trail is pretty short actually, maybe 10 or 15 minutes of walk if you follow it without stops. It leads to a small beach. It's not steep, any child or old person can pass it and you can walk without shoes there. The main reason why you should visit it are a couple dozen monkeys running and jumping around. They are not aggressive, more playful, especially young ones. Yet, they will attempt to take any food they see by force or might steal something from your pocket so you should be cautious. They will not bite or attack you without reason; small ones might jump on your head or shoulders for fun. By the way, there are plenty of signs saying that feeding them is forbidden, so you shouldn't bring food there anyway.
The Monkey Trail in Ao Nang is a short but invigorating hike that offers a unique experience and stunning panoramic views. While it's not a long trek, it's definitely not a leisurely stroll, and that's part of its charm! The trail consists of a combination of stairs, some steep climbs, and uneven terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended The viewpoint provides breathtaking vistas of Ao Nang's coastline, the turquoise waters, and the surrounding limestone cliffs.
If you're looking for a short adventure with rewarding views, the Monkey Trail is a must-do! The trail is completely free to access, which is a huge bonus, especially given how scenic and well-maintained it is. It's a relatively moderate walk overall, but it does include a section with steep wooden stairs that can really get your heart pumping—so be ready for a bit of a workout, especially on the way up! The trail winds through a peaceful natural setting, and there are several spots where you can pause to take in the absolutely stunning views. Whether you're a local or just visiting the area, it’s the kind of trail that gives you a quick escape into nature without needing to spend a whole day hiking. I’d definitely recommend wearing sturdy shoes, as some parts of the path and the stairs can be slippery or uneven, especially after rain. There’s something special about reaching the higher points and looking out across the landscape—it’s quiet, serene, and makes the climb totally worth it. Great for solo hikers, couples, or even families with older kids. Just make sure you're prepared for the stairs! Will definitely be coming back.
Took a short walk up. Saw lot of monkeys, some carrying young babies. Very cute. They behaved. They walk quietly by you, very near, on plank walkway or bamboo railings. Only saw 1 snatched a bag from lady. Advice, do not carry bags, specially plastic shopping bags, in hands or over shoulder. The monkeys woukd come down the beach as well, until a local dog walking toward them. Then the monkeys would walk/run onto trees, walkways. Walk gets you into/under thick canopy, so no breeze, can get hot. Involves steps. Some planks appear weak.
Short but fun trail on wooden staircases and boards. Didn’t see any monkeys on the trail itself, but there were loads on the beach you access via the trail! Would be a challenge if you’re not used to walking uphill in the heat, or if the steps were wet/slippy.
