18 Takarunga Road, Devonport, Auckland 0624, New Zealand
This place is a short walk from the Torpedo Navy Museum. It's free entrance. You have a lower and an upper car park. The toilets are closer to the upper car park. The views from this place are stunning. You can also walk down and walk a short distance along the water. You can also set up a tent for yourself and play all day long. You can get off the Ferry from the CBD and take Bus Route 807 to reach here.
Great place for a walk with the family. Upper and lower parking lots. Awesome bit of Auckland history Well worth the walk and read. I do wish there was more info points with pictures
A free experience to explore the underground tunnels, with a wonderful view of greater Auckland. You can use your phone to light up the tunnels, but a small torch might be better.
We recently visited Maungauika / North Head Historic Reserve, and it was such a memorable experience—especially for the kids! The site is not only stunning with panoramic views of the Hauraki Gulf, Rangitoto Island, and Auckland’s skyline, but it’s also full of rich history. The kids loved exploring the old tunnels, bunkers, and gun emplacements, and it was a great hands-on way for them to learn about New Zealand’s coastal defence history. There’s plenty of open space to run around, and the walking tracks are easy to navigate with lots of interesting stops along the way. Highly recommend for families, history lovers, or anyone looking to enjoy one of Auckland’s most unique scenic spots!
Easy to access than Mt.victoria. We can drive to the summit. We can go into the tunnel. But you need to light. Ni e view and Easy walk for 10 to 30 mins to look around.
